This 1977 Chevrolet Monte Carlo Landau Sport Coupe is an unrestored
original example with 4,500 actual miles.
In 1977, Dr. Weldon Burchill, of Mason, Michigan decided that he
wanted a new Chevy Monte Carlo. That was absolutely no problem
because his brother, Kenneth Burchill, was an executive with the
Chevrolet Division of General Motors. Weldon & Kenneth ordered a
Firethorn Red Landau with a 305 V8 with matching interior, tinted
glass, floor mats, rear window defogger, air conditioning, speed
control, turbo hydramatic transmission, tilt steering column,
whitewall radial tires, gauge package, AM/FM radio with rear seat
speaker, auxiliary lighting group, bumper rub strips, and a
matching vinyl top. Kenneth took the car as a demonstrator then,
after only a few miles, sold it to brother Weldon as a demo on the
family program through Roger Penske Chevrolet in nearby Southfield,
Michigan. Weldon only paid about 66% of the sticker price because
of the discounts at $4,645.01. Dr. Burchill enjoyed the car only a
few thousand miles. One evening during a trip home from a
restaurant, his 2 daughters got in a fight over who had to sit in
the back seat. According to Weldon, Jr, his father parked the Monte
Carlo in the garage that night and never drove it again. Weldon Jr
was allowed to drive this beauty occasionally. He was allowed to
drive it to his senior prom but had to return it home before going
to the "after parties".
After 42 years of dry storage on jack stands, Weldon, Jr, who is
living in Minnesota now, inherited the Monte Carlo in 2020. Being a
car collector, he knew that it would be best to have the Monte
Carlo checked out by a professional before putting it back on the
road. He enlisted his friend at Doug's Rod Garage to "punch out"
the Monte Carlo for safe driving. This included but was not limited
to new tires, gas tank, service engine, rebuild brakes, service
transmission, belts & hoses, polish original paint, etc. The
receipt for this work that was completed in January of 2021 is
included with the purchase of this car.
Also included is a copy of the original invoice, sales & finance
papers, letter from Roger Penske Chevrolet, copy of the original
title, Penske order form, the original registration, owner's
manual, original warranty book and the original keys.
As of this date, May 2025, car has 4,509 miles. Titled in the name
of Wally Jr and a mileage statement signed by him as well.
