This isn't just a Z06-it's a full-blown street-fighting monster
built to dominate. Nicknamed the "C5.5" for its hybrid bloodline of
C5 bones and C6 Z06 drivetrain, this custom 2002 Chevrolet Corvette
Z06 was built by Randy Johnson of D&Z Customs specifically to
tear it up in Optima's Search for the Ultimate Street Car series.
It's as serious as it gets without a cage and slicks.
Under the carbon fiber hood sits a Mast Motorsports-built 427ci LS7
spinning out 624 rwhp through a T-56 six-speed and a C6 Z06 diff. A
Dailey dry sump system keeps it lubed under load, while a
Centerforce clutch and G Force half shafts make sure the power hits
pavement without mercy. Long tube Kooks headers and Magnaflow
stainless exhaust give it the bark to match the bite.
The suspension is all RideTech-triple-adjustable coilovers, splined
sway bars, and Delrin bushings everywhere. Stopping duties are
handled by Wilwood brakes with massive 14-inch rotors and 6-piston
calipers up front, 13-inch and 4-piston out back. Forgeline AR1s
(18x11/18x12) wrapped in 315s all around keep it planted like it's
on rails.
It's trimmed in a one-off PPG Speedway White and black paint
scheme, rocking Lewis 5 widebody fenders, Extreme Dimensions
bumpers, a custom spoiler, fixed Radio Flyer headlights, and a
Carbon Concepts carbon hood. The front nose conversion and NRG
quick-release Sparco wheel scream function-first aggression.
Inside, it's caged with a custom roll bar, Sparco buckets and
5-point harnesses, and packed with a full custom sound system,
Kenwood head unit, bass control, and a backup camera for good
measure. With only 3,200 dry pounds and every mod meant to win,
this is the street-legal war machine you don't want to line up
against.
