Vehicle Description
1976 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe
In 1976, the Apple Computer Company was founded by Steve Jobs and
Steve Wozniak. The two dollar bill was introduced on Thomas
Jefferson's 233rdbirthday. The entire country celebrated the
Bicentennial, the 200thanniversary of the Declaration of
Independence, and the 1976 Corvette saw an 8% increase in
horsepower and set new sales records.
For consignment, a 1976 Chevrolet Corvette coupe with a title
verified 97,046 actual miles. The car was restored in 1998 and was
taken out of storage in 2021 after which it received numerous
upgrades, including aluminum heads added to the numbers matching
engine. There are a number of subtle exterior touches as well. Lots
of the original parts will come along with the vehicle.
Due to modifications of the emissions control devices installed by
the manufacturer, please check your local, state, and federal laws
to determine if this vehicle is applicable for use on public
highways in your area.*
Exterior
Medium Claret is the color of choice here, a maroon hue in two
stages and while this coke bottle body style looks good in any
color, the dark red is especially rich looking. The black grille
almost disappears underneath it while the side vents look more
subdued and darker. Out back, aftermarket lenses cover the tail
lights giving the car a slightly modern interpretation, and they
fall at the base of a rear deck that is coddled by flying buttress
C-pillars that form a cove around the vertical rear window. Body
colored T-tops live on top and when they're removed, polished
framework is revealed. 15-inch wheels wear false knock offs as
another custom addition and throwback to earlier Vette.
Imperfections include a bubble in the paint, some chips, scratches
on the nose, and curb rash on a wheel.
Interior
The simulated woodgrain panel in the center of each door goes
nicely with the Dark Firethorn vinyl and plastic that surrounds it
while a small, carpeted kick, angling like the rest of the door
features, covers the bottom. The Dark Firethorn leather bucket
seats are in nice shape with some typical patina earned through age
that translates to the padded armrest in the center as well. A 4
spoke red steering wheel presents to the driver with twin gauges in
front augmented by the center panel where four gauges and a clock
live in a black plastic face plate over a JVC AM/FM/Cassette radio.
The center console face plate is in good shape housing the A/C
panel, shifter, and L-48 information tag, all over a red console
that is also in very good condition. Plush red carpet covers the
floor and rear cargo area and as red carpet from the 70's will do,
a few patches of faded red appear, but overall itsis nice.
Drivetrain
We're greeted by clean components in the engine bay where the
numbers matching 350ci L48 V8 is enhanced by a Comp Cams hydraulic
lifter cam with .502i/510e lift and 224i/230e duration. It also has
Liberty Performance aluminum heads, and Edelbrock intake manifold,
and Edelbrock 4-barrel carburetor. The transmission is a built
200R4 with a B&M shift kit, 2500rpm lock up converter, and a
Grand National valve body and governor. The rear has 3.08 gears
with Positraction and the car is slowed down thanks to the power
disc brakes at all four wheels.
Undercarriage
Clean underneath where the dual exhaust comes from headers in the
bay, meet at an X-pipe, then travel through Pypes mufflers before
exiting via downturned tips. There is no catalytic converter on
board. The underside is rust free and the only dampness is on a
crossmember, the rest is dry and knuckles are clear. Coil springs
are up front for suspension and the rear is Corvette's complex
system of a frame mounted differential, tubular axle drive shafts,
transverse strut rods, torque control arms, and transverse leaf
spring.
Drive-ability
With T-tops firmly in place, we crank up this beefed up 350 and it
experiences a youthful rejuvenation while bellowing some healthy
sounds from the exhaust system. Once we become part of the car by
sitting in it, we throw it into Drive and head out on the test loop
where the 60 series tires absorb imperfections as best they can
while the car tracks straight, handles well, and puts out some more
muscle than your average '76. We note the A/C, reverse lights, and
clock do not work, also, the temperature wheel does not move.
Beyond that, all functions work as intended. While Classic Auto
Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of
our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working
at the time of your purchase.
Just checked and an astounding 550 Corvettes have passed through
Classic Auto Mall! That's nearly 10 times the number of men who
signed the Declaration of Independence in 1776. And you know what,
each car provides a feeling of sportiness that few can match, and
even at the height of the malaise period, a '76 Corvette still
excites. This enhanced version of a 1976 Corvette is a stand out
and if you're in the market, put this on your radar. We'll await
your John Hancock.
