by noted authority Dave Wise in March 2025 A pony car manufactured
by the Chrysler Corporation from 1964 through 1974, the Plymouth
Barracuda was offered in three distinct generations. The most
desirable and recognizable of them all was the third generation,
which were built from 1970 to 1974. Not only were they the most
aesthetically pleasing versions, they were also offered with one of
the hottest engines ever placed in an American automobile, the 440
"Six-Pack" V-8. The advertised rating was 385 horsepower, but this
was a complete fabrication by Chrysler, as the real horsepower
rating was probably somewhere well north of 400 horsepower. In
total, 6,228 'Cuda Hardtops were built and the installation of this
power plant by any definition was rare, as just 237 in all 'Cuda
production for 1971 chose the 440-6 V-8, and far fewer combined it
with the four-speed manual transmission. Sold new in Virginia, this
factory one of 16 EV2 Tor-Red 'Cuda has been thoroughly documented
and cared for since leaving its original dealer. Documented by its
original broadcast sheet, original Chrysler warranty booklet, a
Galen Govier Report, a Nick Larsson Mr. Mopar Registry and a 2025
Dave Wise Elite Validation report, it was ordered new with the
action-packed 385-horsepower 440-cubic-inch 3-2-barrel V-8 power
plant and four-speed manual transmission, both of which remain
today and are in top shape. The combination of engine and
transmission makes this a rare car, as it is one of only 50
four-speed cars built in 1971. Furthermore, according to the recent
2024 Mr. Mopar Registry, as delivered it is a one-of-one per its
color and option combination. A copy of this report and breakdown
can be found on Worldwide Auctioneers' website or at the Document
Station during the auction. The original owner must have wanted
this 'Cuda to be truly rare and a force to reckon with on the
streets, as he checked the box for the A33 Track Pak, N85
tachometer, and the A62 Rallye instrument cluster. Other notable
factory options include a woodgrain console, dual exhaust tips, and
a R11 AM Music Master radio, which most likely won't get much use,
as the symphony of sound from the 440 V-8 will be more than
sufficient. This special 'Cuda was restored under the care of
Massachusetts-based collector, Mike DeVincent, who also added the
optional N96 shaker hood. The current owner would welcome this
'Cuda into his personal muscle car collection over 18 years ago in
2007. Since then, it has been routinely maintained and cared for
and a few miles have been added over the years. Thoroughly
documented in a current March 2025 report by Dave Wise, nicely
restored, and lovingly maintained, this numbers-matching factory
Tor-Red 440-6 four-speed Track Pak, Shaker Hood 'Cuda, with its
array of factory options makes it a rare find among its peers. This
'Cuda passes the test in every regard. We invite you to inspect it
to the tiniest detail. With one-of-one optioning and an unbeatable
driveline package putting it into a class by itself, this 'Cuda is
exactly the stuff that legends are made of.
