In the world of modern muscle cars, there are a handful of truly
incredible collectible vehicles. This 1995 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra R
is one of those cars. The Cobra R was a model that focused entirely
on maximizing performance, eliminating any extraneous creature
comforts. The second of just three iterations ever produced, the
SN95 variant you see here is bookended by the 1993 and 2000 Cobra R
models, and with just 250 examples ever made, is one of the rarest
rides you will ever encounter. This stellar example comes to us
with an impossibly low 9,262 actual miles on its odometer, which
explains why its original panels and Crystal White paint appear to
be in such excellent condition.
Inside, we find a beige cloth interior that is in spectacular
shape. Supportive and surprisingly comfortable, considering the
Cobra R's ethos, the relatively plush bucket seats, along with a
center console featuring dual cupholders are all the amenities
you'll get with this race-ready rocket. Items deleted in the name
of weight conservation and all-out performance include the radio,
power windows, power locks, back seat, and sound-deadening
material, underscoring the no-nonsense attitude engineered into
every inch of this Cobra R.
That bulging cowl hood is a product of form following function.
Because the Cobra R was outfitted with a larger 5.8-liter, 351
cubic-inch Windsor V-8 engine, more space was needed to clear its
GT40 heads and big Cobra intake. Stock exhaust manifolds feed into
a FlowMaster dual exhaust, giving this car a distinctive growl all
its own. Power is funneled through a Tremec 3550 five-speed manual
transmission before being sent out to the 3.27:1 geared rear end. A
set of seventeen-inch Cobra R wheels shod in 255/45ZR-17
Continental rubber put power to the pavement, while a staggered set
of power-assisted 235/45ZR-17 tires handle steering duties up
front.
