Vehicle Description
Although hot-rodding has been around for nearly a century, in all
that time, there is one car that stands out in the hearts of many
enthusiasts as the definitive example of the classic hot rod. This
1932 Ford Highboy Roadster is one of those cars. The '32 Ford
became such an automotive icon that the Beach Boys not only named a
song after it, but also an entire album. Outfitted in an
impossible-to-miss red exterior paint, this car is a topless
roadster rather than the Little Deuce Coupe the Beach Boys sang
about, but the hot rod spirit is just as potent, if not even more
so, with the wind whipping through your hair.
Inside, we find a well-done black vinyl interior that is as
elegantly simple in its execution. A thick six-spoke steering wheel
sits in front of a set of white-faced Dolphin gauges set against
the body-color dashboard. A big column-mounted tach sits offset to
the right of the wheel, completing the set. An AM/FM/Aux/ stereo is
hidden discreetly underneath the dashboard, allowing you to enjoy
whatever soundtrack you might be in the mood for ... Beach Boys or
otherwise. Seatbelts and door pocket map holders complete the
amenity list.
In true hot rod fashion, we find a Goodwrench/Target Master 350
cubic-inch V-8 crate motor. Along with a huge air scoop, a single
four-barrel carburetor sits atop this small block, while a set of
long-tube headers eliminates spent gases. Interestingly, this car
comes with a dual exhaust, but not just in the way you are
thinking. Yes, there is a traditional dual exhaust setup, complete
with FlowMaster mufflers. But, you are also able to bypass that
entire system and send exhaust through a set of muffler-less side
pipes if you want to make sure everyone within earshot knows you've
arrived. In either case, power is funneled through a 700R4
four-speed automatic transmission on its way to the ten-bolt rear
end.
This head-turning 1932 Ford Highboy Roadster rides on an A-arm
front suspension, with a four-link setup in the rear. Coilovers at
all four corners keep those gorgeous seventeen-inch polished Ridler
wheels shod in big 265/65ZR-17 rear Kelly Edge A/S tires, while
skinnier 215/45ZR-17s complete the classic staggered hot rod look.
Power brakes featuring a set of Wilwood discs up front help scrub
off speed whenever necessary.
