There is just something special about owning a first-generation
muscle car like this 1968 Chevrolet Camaro. With its numbers
matching small block under the hood, owner's manual, and original
warranty card, this Pony Car is the perfect addition to a
collection seeking something close to its original form. Fully
repainted in a slightly less audacious shade than the Rally Green
it was made with, this Camaro tastefully adds a D90 SS stripe, SS
gas cap, and D80 rear spoiler to give it an understated, yet
(Super) sporty vibe.
Inside, we find a fully replaced mild custom sea of black vinyl.
Soft bucket seats provide a comfortable view of the classic
power-assisted three-spoke wheel, the upgraded gauge cluster, the
staple-style shifter handle, and the simple sliding HVAC controls.
A modern JVC AM/FM/CD/AUX head unit fits in surprisingly well
against the black dashboard, adding the luxury of being able to
utilize your phone's music library instead of fumbling around with
8-track cartridges or aging cassettes.
Under the hood, we find a clean engine bay featuring an
orange-painted, numbers-matching 327 cubic-inch V-8. Topped with a
single Rochester Quadrajet four-barrel carburetor, this small block
made an advertised 275 horsepower and 355 pound-feet of torque.
That power is routed through a two-speed Powerglide automatic
transmission before being sent out to the ten-bolt rear end. A set
of seventeen-inch American Racing Torq Thrust wheels sit at all
four corners, the rears measuring 275/40ZR-17, while the staggered
fronts are a slightly narrower 245/40ZR-17, which gives this Pony
Car a less wandering demeanor out on the highway.
