While Tom Brady may have monopolized the G.O.A.T. moniker in recent
years, this 1967 Pontiac GTO hardtop represents the original Goat
from the Golden Age of muscle cars. Fully repainted in a classic
cream-colored exterior paint, this GTO's laser straight lines and
almost non-existent panel gaps tell us they are probably the car's
originals from the factory. This '67 shows off the GTO's styling
changes for the new model year, highlighted by its dual-quad
taillight arrangement, replacing its predecessor's louvered
setup.
Inside, we find a freshened-up factory black vinyl interior. A
woodgrain-trimmed center console separates dual bucket seats. The
matching woodgrain dashboard panel is home to a quad-pod gauge
cluster situated directly in front of the old-school three-spoke
wheel. Sliding HVAC controls and an AM radio take you back in time,
while power steering and air conditioning offer a touch of
convenience to this throwback muscle car.
Under the hood, we find a believed original 400 cubic-inch V-8
engine that is stamped with a March 14th, 1967 date code. A single
four-barrel Demon carburetor sits atop this big block, while a true
dual exhaust does away with spent gases and gives this Goat a
different kind of passing power. Those ponies are then funneled
through a three-speed TH400 automatic transmission before being
sent out to the factory ten-bolt rear end. Optional fourteen-inch
Rally II wheels are wrapped in 225/70R-14 BF Goodrich Radial T/A
tires at all four corners.

Sitting on a suspension that sports new bushings and rear air
shocks, this 1967 Pontiac GTO rides the way it is supposed to. When
the need to corral that speed arises, a set of power brakes
featuring discs up front and drums in the rear are ready to scrub
off speed whenever called upon. While Tom Brady may be the football
G.O.A.T., this final year, first-gen Pontiac shows us all why it
was the original Goat, and belongs in the muscle car hall of fame.
