Motorcar Studio is pleased to offer this North American
Specification 1994 Land Rover Defender 90. Finished in Coniston
Green, paint meters as original on every panel. Long-term
California truck with no known rust; clean CarFax with no
accidents. Frame, crossmembers, spring perches, door frames,
bulkhead, etc. are in excellent original condition and have never
been repainted or undercoated (so there will be no surprises
lurking beneath). Factory 16-inch alloy wheels are wearing BF
Goodrich mud terrain tires. Newer surrey top is in excellent
condition. Removable side curtains (the top half of the doors) are
likewise excellent. A safari rack from Safety Devices has a
removable basket if overhead clearance is an issue for the next
owner.
The North American Specification (NAS) Defender 90 was only
officially imported in 1994, 1995 and 1997 and featured the Rover
gasoline V8. In all, fewer than 6,500 NAS D90s were officially
imported and we find them to be considerably more refined than a
grey-market import (which are usually Diesel-powered and rarely
have factory A/C)
Interior presents nicely with Exmoor Trim front bucket seats and
folding rear jump seats. A Kenwood AM/FM/CD stereo with aux input
is mounted in the factory center console (which also provides
cupholders and storage). All gauges are working. We rarely see
factory a/c on a D90 soft top, but this truck was optioned with
air, and it's blowing cold.
Under the hood is Rover's 3.9 liter gasoline V8 mated to a
five-speed manual transmission. The engine runs well and the
clutch, gearbox and shift linkage feel good with no crunchy
synchros and no sloppy shifting. As any NAS D90 is now 30 years
old, we see considerable individual variation from truck to truck
based on the life it has lived and the car it has received - many
have rust in the frame and either need or have undergone
significant restoration. It's increasingly rare to find one like
this example that remains in original paint and free of any
