Vehicle Description
Cruisin Classics is pleased to present to you this 1965 Chevrolet
C-10. This first-gen C/K truck appears to have lived most of its
life out west in the hot sun, and its orange paint has been baked
to a lovely patina that can only be earned with time. Despite its
rather rustic outer appearance, this truck was bestowed with $25K
in upgrades in 2020 that transformed it into a far better driving
truck than it was originally. These upgrades include putting the
body onto a new frame ($8.5K!), adding Air Lift suspension, a
Ridetech front lower control arm package, C-notched, drop spindles,
front power disc brake conversion, 5-lug rear axle conversion, new
bed wood, and a set of Billet Specialties smoothies wrapped in
white-wall Diamondback tires ($4.2K). There were, of course, some
additional minor improvements & custom touches, and we have
receipts for all of that work, done by Street Machinery in Euclid,
Ohio. Needless to say, the underside of this truck looks absolutely
spectacular, and the ride quality is excellent! Let's dig a little
deeper into this classic C-10...
Up front is a bright eggcrate grille flanked by round T-3
headlights in bright square bezels - all framed with a white
painted border. Beneath the grille is a chrome bumper that looks
good but is starting to show a little age. Attached to the front
bumper is a license plate holder from Peninsula Chevrolet in Palo
Alto - quite possibly where the truck was originally purchased. The
side view of the truck just oozes cool, with original "bowtie 10"
badging, newer bright body side molding with white center strip, a
very faded business logo on the driver's door that reads "Blackman
Building Contractor", and those awesome Billet Specialties wheels
with bowtie centercaps. We found three old California registrations
in the glovebox that tell us that the truck was originally sold to
William C. Blackman of Mountain View, California (right next to the
town of Palo Alto), thus explaining the door logo and the license
plate holder. Other side view highlights are a white painted cab
roof (heavily patina'd) with an original-looking B-pillar "Custom"
trim piece, a simple driver's side mirror, and a bright door handle
& gas cap. Around back, you'll find a large tinted rear window, a
new wood bed with painted original-looking dividers, a tailgate
with hook & chain closures and faded white "CHEVROLET" lettering,
and a new-looking chrome rear bumper. Under the bumper are
tailpipes for the dual exhaust with glass-pack mufflers that emit
quite a pleasing rumble.
Lift the hood to reveal a very original engine bay. At the heart is
what we believe to be the original 283ci V-8 topped with a stock
intake, blue patina "Chevrolet" valve covers, a 2-barrel GM
carburetor, and a black air cleaner. Mounted on the firewall is a
new brake booster with a dual reservoir for the front disc and rear
drum brakes. Steering is manual. The V-8 is mated up to a 3-speed
manual transmission with column shifter (3-on-the-tree) that sends
power to the rear wheels via a 12-bolt axle.
When you open the driver's door, you're greeted by an interior that
shares all of the cool patina found on the exterior. The door
panels are painted grey and they're bare and simple with the
exception of some excellent artwork - with a portrait of Muddy
Waters on the drivers door and John Lee Hooker on the passenger
side. The pillars, walls, ceiling, and dash are all painted in the
same grey as the doors. A black rubber floor mat welcomes you
inside to have a seat on the plain but comfortable orange vinyl
bench seat. Ahead of the driver is a 2-spoke OEM steering wheel
with a working horn ring and aftermarket faux leather cover. The
steering wheel frames a black gauge bezel that contains what appear
to be all original gauges. There is a 100mph speedometer and gauges
for temp, batt, oil, and fuel - all of which work as they should.
The odometer reads 57,420 miles, and the title claims them to be
actual! Also on the bezel are controls for lights and the working
2-speed wipers. To the right of the bezel is a knob that pulls out
to turn on the heat and turns to increase the fan speed. In the
center of the dash is a simple ashtray with a non-working AM
Chevrolet radio. Mounted under the center of the dash are controls
for the Air Ride suspension. Ahead of the passenger is a glovebox
that contains the aforementioned CA registrations and receipts for
all of the recent improvements. Overhead are two very basic
cardboard visors.
If you're a fan of old-school-cool trucks, you're going to love
this '65 C-10! It has a killer look, it's on a new frame with air
ride suspension, it's got front power disc brakes, it is loaded
with other recent upgrades, and it runs and drives great! One thing
is for sure - you're going to turn heads everywhere you go in this
classic C-10! Give us a call today!
