Vehicle Description
2006 Chevrolet Silverado SS Extended Cab Short Bed Pickup
Ten years after the last Chevy 454 SS pickup truck rolled off the
assembly line, the company jumped back into the performance truck
world with the AWD, extended cab Silverado SS. As Car and Driver
wrote at the time, "With time comes progress, and Chevy's latest
screamer truck is refined where the 454 was crude. It's still
plenty quick, mind you, but now it goes about its business like a
seasoned veteran rather than a hotshot rookie. Swift. Deliberately.
Controlled."
For consignment, a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado SS extended cab short
bed pickup with a title verified 129,799 actual miles, replete with
some mild performance upgrades, new components, and a lowered
stance that turns this muscle truck into a lean and low wicked
ride. Muscle truck lovers unite! Here's one that's roomier than a
Syclone, and easier on gas than an SRT10!
Note: This vehicle is sold with a New Jersey Salvage branding on
the title
Due to modifications of the emissions control devices installed by
the manufacturer, please check your local, state, and federal laws

highways in your area.*
Exterior
2006 would be the last year for the SS and the only change from
previous years was the option of a bench seat, but a variety of
colors were still available including arguably the most desirable,
black. The monochromatic coverage of a single color on the SS gives
the vehicle an aggressive and immediately recognizable disposition.
The only thing that breaks the black are the SS emblems. Even the
door handles are glossy black while the face is enhanced by a
honeycomb like grille set and defined air intake ducts which are
characteristic design cues on the SS and it's here we note the
marker lights are clear rather than ambler. The bed is uncovered
and has seen a lot of use, so use it! 22-inch wheels roll with
super low profile tires in staggered sizes and Wilwood red brake
calipers shine through. The truck has a sunroof and solid rear
window and overall, the paint is in ok condition. Imperfections
include scratched areas of orange peel. We take note of the
tailgate spoiler on the back which is a pretty cool addition!
Interior
Open the front door, then you can open the rear doors which have no
external handles. Now you've got barn door style access to the
entire interior. Charcoal molded plastic door panels with gray
cloth inserts greet you in familiar GM configuration. The back
doors include a cup holder and storage bin on the narrower doors
and show some minor usage. The front leather bucket seats have
bulky cushions, pull down armrests, and electric adjustments with
some compression and wear consistent with mileage. The less deep
rear bench, with the same pillowy quality, is still big enough for
adults as headroom is more than adequate. An Auto LED carbon fiber
steering wheel has been added and sits in front of the white faced
gauges with blue lit needles in a cluster that is thorough and easy
to read. A touchscreen AM/FM/CD unit has been added over the
standard AC controls and an SS badge is prominent on the dash lest
you forget you're driving a high performance Silverado. A big
center console contains a storage bin, open storage, and a cup
holder. WeatherTech mats protect the gray carpet and the overhead
console has storage, lights, and switches.
Drivetrain
Under the hood, a clean 6.0 liter LQ9 V8 backed by a 4L60E 4-speed
automatic transmission with a Corvette shift servo, GAP trans
cooler, and deep pan. It sends power to the 10 bolt rear with 3.73
gears with Eaton TrueTrac carrier. Wilwood 16" power disc brakes
are found front and rear with newer stainless lines, and stainless
headers begin the exhaust process.
Undercarriage
The frame was blasted and painted so it's pretty clean underneath
where a number of mods have been made. The front frame shows
typical surface rust and the driveshaft is colored by surface rust.
A Corsa Cat back system begins after the headers and includes the
muffler which sends a tailpipe back, terminating in twin chrome
tips behind the right rear wheel. No cats are onboard. Suspension
begins with coil springs in front and leaf springs in back, and
benefits from additions including DJM upper & lower control arms,
BellTech drop spindles, and Bilstein shocks.
Drive-Ability
SS Silverados were lower from the factory than the standard 'Rado,
but this one takes it to the next level and feels almost car-like
upon entry. Even with some miles, the 6.0 is a smooth running and
capable powerplant and this truck stays planted in turns and as we
tend to drive like a grandmother on test runs, we can tell there's
more potential at speed with this family friendly performance
truck. All of the onboard functions operate as they should and we
slide this slick SS back to the mall. While Classic Auto Mall
represents that these functions were working at the time of our
test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at
the time of your purchase.
The Silverado SS was produced from 2003 to 2006 and while some were
put away and recognized as potential future collectibles, others
were readily used as capable work trucks. Here's one you can haul
stuff with during the week, then throw the kids in the back seat
and hit cruise night and morning events during the weekend. No
matter what, you're still rocking a collectible performance truck.
Only about 1,000 were produced in 2006 and with a potential 2025
Silverado SS on the horizon, desirability is only going to go in
one direction!
