Vehicle Description
Introducing a remarkable 2014 Street Legal Whelen Asphalt Modified,
intriguingly titled as a 1984 Custom Construction. This unique
racecar has an impressive history, originally making its mark on
the east coast as part of the NASCAR Whelen Asphalt Modified
Series. After several successful years on the circuit, it was
transported to a NASCAR shop in Mooresville, North Carolina, where
a comprehensive rebuild of the roll cage and sheet metal took
place. This significant work was commissioned by Rusty Wallace
Racing Inc., and the car has the honor of being driven by the
legendary NASCAR Hall of Famer, Rusty Wallace himself.
Once transformed into a two-seater, this modified vehicle served as
a training car for future NASCAR Hall of Fame driver Ryan Newman,
helping him get up to speed before he embarked on his journey with
the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour in 2023. After the training
sessions concluded, the car was sold by Rusty Wallace Racing in
2023. Currently, it is street legal in Missouri, boasting a Custom
Construction Title. Notable features include DOT-approved 80W LED
headlights, LED blinkers, LED tail lights, brake lights, a third
brake light, a horn, and DOT-rated Hoosier Racing tires, all
complemented by a race-spec " Lexan windshield.
This one-of-a-kind opportunity allows you to own a street-legal
hotrod that has been driven by two NASCAR legends, making it a rare
find. You won't encounter another vehicle like this on the road,
and it undoubtedly garners more attention than any European exotic
car. With 18" wide tires on all four corners, this car is a true
showstopper wherever it goes. These asphalt modified vehicles are
often regarded as the American equivalent of a Formula 1 car, being
over a foot wider and lower than a standard NASCAR while boasting
similar horsepower to a NASCAR Cup Car.
Under the hood, you'll find a Rusty Wallace Racing-built GM
Performance aluminum head 604-based motor, producing an impressive
~550 horsepower. This powerhouse runs on a 50/50 mixture of 110
race gas and premium fuel, and it features an MSD ignition system,
Kooks headers with race mufflers, and a pair of additional
slip-on/bolt-on mufflers for versatility. The engine has been
recently serviced with a fresh oil change using Valvoline VR1 20W50
and is equipped with a GM Denso mini race 90A alternator, a keyed
ignition with push-button start, and an electric radiator fan.
The transmission is a fully built "The Outlaw" by Magnus
Transmissions, featuring a straight-cut 3-speed transmission with a
twin lever shifter. A freshly rebuilt 4-speed transmission with
cryo-hardened internals is also included, along with a recent oil
change using Mobil 1 Full Synthetic 75-90. Additionally, the car
features a Winters quick change heavy-duty rear end, complete with
two gear sets for customization, currently set up for an optimal
mix of acceleration and top-end performance suitable for street and
road course driving. A fresh oil change has also been performed on
the rear end.
The roll cage is constructed to NASCAR specifications with 1.75"
tubing, featuring magnetic swing-up T-tops and hinged perimeter
roof bars for easy entry and exit. The car comes with two complete
sets of four wheels plus an additional pair of loading wheels; one
set includes brand new Basset lightweight 15" wide wheels in gloss
black with Hoosier Pro Street radial DOT tires, and the other
consists of race-used Basset lightweight wheels in chrome with
Hoosier scuff slicks.
The car is equipped with Wilwood racing brakes, including Speedway
338 medium superlite brake pads and pro lite vented brake rotors.
For safety, it features Kirkey aluminum seats with 5-point
harnesses and an ATL fuel cell. The suspension consists of original
racing coilovers, which can be adjusted down to 1" off the ground
for racing height but are currently set for cruising comfort. A
recent alignment ensures that this car drives straight at any
speed, making it capable of cruising comfortably at 90 mph with
minimal effort on the steering wheel. Additionally, it features a
GPS speedometer to keep track of your speed accurately.
This 2014 Street Legal Whelen Asphalt Modified is not just a
vehicle; it's a piece of racing history, a masterpiece of
engineering, and a thrilling ride that offers an unparalleled
