Vehicle Description
Incredible 30,909 original mile original car. Powerful factory
429-4V engine. Super clean throughout. Extensive recent service
including fluids, brakes, radiator, and much more. Runs and drives
like a new Ford!Without exaggeration, this might be the nicest
50-year-old car I've ever driven. I have a lot of seat time in a
lot of different cars, but this cool Ford LTD Brougham impressed me
from the moment I turned the key. It starts easily, idles properly,
and with that massive 429 up front, it feels totally effortless in
everything it does. And to be honest, if you're going to have a car
from the '70s, it may as well be all-the-way 1970s: gold paint,
brocade interior, and whitewall tires. This is the car your
grandfather bought himself as a reward for the big promotion at
work. Too cool. As a low-mileage survivor, it remains in excellent
condition throughout with original paint that shines up nicely with
a vintage glow. Only the trunk lid appears to have been repainted,
probably in-period because it sure looks to be about the same age
as the rest of the car. The vinyl top is unblemished with no signs
of bubbling underneath and the chrome is 100% factory original.
Lenses, glass, and other details are in equally nice condition. I
don't know where this car has been for five decades, but someone
certainly took care of it.The awesome Medium Ginger cloth interior
is a highlight, offering funky '70s brocade patterns and that kind
of sofa-on-wheels feeling that makes big American luxury cars feel
special today. This car has the optional split bench with bucket
style seat backs, which makes the LTD feel at least a little
sporty, and all the material is in excellent condition with no rips
or tears anywhere. Heck, I bet nobody has ever sat in the back
seat! Other options include working factory A/C, power windows,
rim-blow steering wheel, and an AM/FM stereo radio. Only the clock
is inoperable, although it will tick for a few hours if you give
the hands a turn. Carpets, headliner, and dash pad are remarkably
well preserved and the trunk features the original mat, as well as
a new radial spare and complete jack assembly. The big news on this
LTD is the muscular 429 cubic inch V8 under the hood. While most of
these got wheezing 302s or maybe a 351, the 429 is a different
animal altogether. Topped by a fresh 4-barrel carburetor, it makes
this luxury yacht feel quick in today's traffic and it never feels
like it's working very hard. There's just torque everywhere. The
engine itself has never been out of the car, so all that Ford Blue
engine enamel you see is factory-applied, as are all the decals
save for the one on the air cleaner, which is a correct
reproduction. The list of new equipment is lengthy, including a
fresh aluminum radiator, new master cylinder, rebuilt carburetor,
full tune-up with fresh plugs, and so much more. Even the flexible
duct on the air cleaner is still intact?nice! It starts easily,
idles nicely, and generally goes about its business without any
fuss. The C6 3-speed automatic transmission shifts unobtrusively
and there are highway-friendly 2.75 gears in the 9-inch rear end.
You will note all the new stuff underneath, including front shocks,
brakes (including calipers and rotors), and a restored gas tank. Of
note, however, we believe the exhaust system is original and this
car was equipped from the factory with a towing package (that
explains the 429) so those air shocks and the trailer hitch are all
factory-issue. And you'd better believe this sucker is clean?just
look at those floors! There's no rust, no rot, no issues whatsoever
on this super clean Ford. Even the 225/75/15 whitewall radials are
new, so it's 100% ready to hit the road.Everyone calls their
original car a survivor, but the best original cars like this LTD
stand head and shoulders above the class. Ready for preservation
judging at almost any level and simply a pleasure to drive, this is
one of the best original cars we've ever featured. When people say
'survivor,' this is what they mean. A car that has always been
