Taken from the army and made for the masses, few trucks can compare
with the iconic status of the Civilian Jeep (CJ) series of one of
America's favorite vehicles. This 1977 Jeep CJ7 Renegade comes
decked out in a deep black exterior paint featuring blue hood and
trim graphics to give it even more charisma. Keep its removable
hardtop on, and you're ready to take on any weather conditions that
come your way. Or, take the top off and enjoy the fun and leisurely
side of this off-roading warrior.
Inside, this CJ retains its military no-frills personality with the
exception of a redone set of front bucket seats that offer far more
lateral and lumbar support than its military predecessor. A
three-spoke tilt wheel sits before a column-mounted shifter and
gear selector. Offset to the wheel's right sits a 6,000-rpm tach,
while the larger speedometer and corresponding ancillary gauges sit
mid-dashboard. HVAC controls consist of a series of push/pull and
twist knobs, making it easy to keep your eyes focused out the
upright fold-down windshield. A chrome expletive bar gives the
front passenger something to grab onto when the road disappears and
their center of gravity begins to shift outside of their comfort
zone.
Under the hood, we find a big 360 cubic-inch V-8 engine, which has
received a new ignition switch to go along with a new single
two-barrel carburetor. A set of long tube headers feeds into a true
dual exhaust to give this truck a bit more power and sound than its
enlisted forebearers. That power is funneled through an AMC version
of a TH400 three-speed automatic transmission on its way to all
four wheels to give this truck maximum traction.
