Vehicle Description
This ominous Tuxedo Black 1967 Corvette L89, 427/435 hp roadster,
red stinger hood and new red interior and benefited from an
extensive frame-off rotisserie restoration and could be one of only
sixteen L89 Corvettes built in 1967. This Corvette is not
an all original, NCRS Topflight certified, L89 Corvette like the
one that sold for 1.2 million dollars at Mecum Auction, with build
sheet and comprehensive owner history. This Corvette is
an incredible 427/435 horsepower roadster that could be a real L89
Corvette with an impressive list of correct L89 equipment,
including a numbers matching 427/435hp engine that has a very
correct, consistent engine stamp, with broach marks, ridges and is
date code correct for the car's build date. The engine pad also
displays the correct IU suffix that translates as a L89
427/435hp engine with aluminum heads. Based on the
original trim tag on the car, this Corvette was born an original
Ermine White car, code-972, with Blue stinger hood and code-414,
Bright Blue interior and for better or worse, a previous owner did
a color change to Tuxedo Black with red stinger hood and red
interior. I would normally consider that an upgrade, but
maybe not on this car. Without credible owner history and original
paperwork for the car, we can't prove or disprove the L89
authenticity and the car is priced accordingly. If we
could, we would paint the car white and wait for much bigger
check. Whether this is an authentic L89 Corvette or not,
it is powered by a numbers matching 427/435 horsepower engine and
is topped off with newly rebuilt and date code correct L89 aluminum
heads and currently has the original L89 heads on the side, that
would need to be rebuilt before being used. The cost of the L89
heads would be around 10k alone, if you could find them. The L89
aluminum heads did not increase power in 1967, but lightened the
load 75 pounds and definitely increased the resale value for the
sixteen L89 cars produced. The internal engine components
are also built to L89 specifications and will not work with non
aluminum 435hp heads and it may require higher octane to get the
best out of this 1967 street beast. The red
interior has recently been completed and is impeccable with newer
seat covers, carpet, door panels, a refurbished dash with clear
crisp gauges and is topped off with a new black convertible top.
The car has many 427/435 only options including, 6500 tachometer,
80psi oil pressure gauge, heavy duty big block suspension, correct
big block half shafts and have duty sway bar. This rare American
Dream Machine shifts into high gear by a Muncie M-21 4-speed manual
transmission and is nicely optioned with rumbling factory side
exhaust and turbine style bolt on wheels and redline radials.
