For Sale: 1966 Ford Mustang in Columbia, Missouri

Vehicle Description

For sale is my 1966 Mustang C-code coupe. It rolled off the assembly line in San Jose, CA, in April 1966 in a somewhat rare “Sahara Beige” color but is now Porsche Guards Red. It sports a 289 engine and C-4 transmission. According to an old handwritten notepad that comes with the car, in August 1998 a “new engine & transmission” were installed when the car had 64,000 miles on the odometer. Only 20,000 miles have been added since that time.  I believe the car was restored sometime in the late 1990s around the time the engine was replaced.

I've owned this car since Jan 2021 and have invested quite a bit of money in it. A local Mustang restoration shop (Bandalier Mustang in Jefferson City) installed new power-assisted LEED brakes on the front for improved drivability and safety, new leaf springs and shocks, a new Edelbrock manifold and carburetor, and dressed up the engine bay with Shelby-style Cobra valve covers and oval air cleaner. I added a new chrome export brace and Monte Carlo bar. I also had 2-inch "Pypes" turbo mufflers installed at a local muffler shop (you can hear them rumble in the video). The car rides on 15-inch styled-steel wheels and BFG tires, 215s in the front and 235s in the rear. The passenger side rear will lightly rub the fender if there is a lot of weight in the back and driving over a deep dip in the road, but it has not been a significant issue that I felt needed to be addressed.

I don’t see any rust on the car. The floor pans and rails are good. A previous owner installed a metal plate between the trunk and rear seat for extra safety. The rear seat has seat belts.

There are older Pioneer speakers in the kick panels and rear deck wired to a working Bluetooth radio, along with an MTX powered subwoofer in the trunk. All the dash gauges work, including an external temperature gauge mounted under the dash. The temp runs between 185-210 in the summer (I’ve never seen it go over 210). The factory temp gauge stays well below the halfway mark. The steering wheel horn does not work (common in these old Mustangs) but for inspection purposes, there is a button wired under the dash that sounds the horns. The car has factory power steering that works well. I bought a new Optima Redtop battery a couple of months ago. Overall, the car drives really nice and has never let me down.

Cosmetically I would rate the paint as a 7/10. It is an older paint job, probably done when the car was restored in the 1990s. It only has a couple of noticeable blemishes: a small spider crack on the fender, and a bit of peeling on a taillight bezel that I touched up with some paint and clear. Otherwise, people compliment the “shiny paint job.” With a fresh coat of wax, it really turns heads and is perfect for a driver and local car show ride. The interior is clean and the seats are original, from what I can tell. The carpet could probably be replaced at some point. The headliner is intact and the door panels and trim look good. All the windows roll up/down as they should.
