Vehicle Description
2014 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 Super Snake Convertible
"The Super Snake package begins with a stock Mustang Shelby GT500,
which is then sent to the Shelby American factory in Las Vegas. A
supercharger, upgraded suspension, and more powerful brakes are all
fitted to the car to substantially improve all aspects of
performance over the base car. A host of functional and
nonfunctional exterior changes improve the aesthetics of the pony
car by giving it a much more aggressive look and help differentiate
the Mustang Super Snake from less powerful GT500." MotorTrend,

For consignment, a 2014 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 Super Snake
convertible with a title verified 7,253 actual miles. Shelby
American produced just 500 Super Snake convertibles in 2014 with a
choice of superchargers that raised the bar over the base GT500
measly 500-662 horsepower and pumped it up to 600-1,200 horsepower
depending on spec. Our car has a dyno proven 720 horsepower, more
than enough to impress show goers and to chap the hide of the
neighbors.
Exterior
If you squint and you see a bar moving through the Cobra emblem on
the fender, you should definitely take a second look because it
usually denotes a special car, as it does on this black beauty. But
it's the front end that helps define the car with the wide, narrow
hood scoop and gaping, aggressive lower grille with Super Snake
scripted on the oil cooler, underscored by a robust carbon fiber
chin spoiler. The hood is further enhanced by the satin black
stripes and two sizable heat extracting louvered vents close to the
cowl. Out back, a rear wing juts out like a Ginsu knife over smoked
tail lights and perfectly positioned oval exhaust tips through the
lower valance. A black canvas top wears a glass window and is in
great shape, and our eyes are drawn to the Carrol Shelby forged
aluminum wheels which present a sharp contrast to the sinister
black car, and they are wrapped in 35 series ZR rated tires. Red
calipers shine through, adorned with the legendary Shelby name. A
few minor scrapes on the chin spoiler are the only exterior
imperfections we find.
Interior
The door panels nearly lull us to sleep with their basic
configuration borrowed from the GT, but we are rattled awake by the
custom seats we see before us, black and red Recaros with white
stitching and the Super Snake logo embroidered on the seat back,
also in white. The rear 2+2 carry the same pattern and include high
head restraints while a roll bar rises behind the front seats. Up
front, the steering wheel and instrument cluster carry over from
the GT500 but extra gauges are included on the A-pillar to monitor
boost, fuel, and oil pressures. A Shaker entertainment system is
displayed on the center screen and includes AM/FM/CD and
navigation, while the switch panel for the air conditioning is a
series of buttons below it. A few notable Shelby signatures are on
the air bag cover, and Carrolls is engraved in the center console
plate that designates the car as #44 of 500. The stout and striped
shifter resides nearby while charcoal low pile carpet is protected
by Super Snake branded mats. The trunk also has a special floor mat
and also houses the Shaker subwoofer. And everything described
above is in excellent condition with hardly any signs of usage.
Drivetrain
If you look at a cobra or rattlesnake, it's not their pretty
external scales that makes them dangerous, it's the venom glands
tucked into their front parts that you can't see. Open the hood of
this snake and what you see is the venomous and attractive 5.8
liter DOHC V8 wearing a polished Kenne Bell supercharger, together
putting out 720 horsepower proven by the dynamometer. The SS is
moved into motion thanks to the Tremec TR6060 6-speed manual which
benefits from the addition of a Centerforce dual friction clutch,
sending power to the Ford 8.8" in back with 3.73 gears and TracLoc.
As we can see through the wheels, power disc brakes occupy front
and back with drilled and slotted rotors.
Undercarriage
Other than some typical surface rust, the underside looks barely
used. Wax pencils marks and labels are still in place and the
shocks and brake calipers pop with bright colors amongst the black
and metallic surroundings. Big exhaust pipes find their way to
Borla stainless mufflers where they fan out to the polished oval
tips. The basic suspension components include Macpherson struts up
front with a 3 link, coil springs, and a panhard bar in the rear.
Air ducts go from the front of the car to the brake plates for
direct cooling, something you rarely see outside of cars born to
race.
Drive-Ability
We lock into the seats with the standard seatbelts even as gaps
exist for a racing harness, and these will have to do! No
complaints here as this supercar for the streets retains much of
the user friendliness of your average GT, and thus the interior is
not an intimidating space. Turn the key, however, and the puckering
begins because this car makes no secret of its enormous power. On
the test loop, we mostly stayed out of boost and the car remained
streetable with the anticipation of a thoroughbred in the gate. All
functions on this low mileage beauty operate as they should, with
the exception of the foglights, and we snaked our way back to the
mall. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were
working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these
functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
Between the whine of the supercharger and roar of the exhaust, this
car gets your blood going in the same way you react when you see a
rattlesnake on a trail during a hike. And once your adrenaline
settles, you thank your lucky stars for being able to experience
such a potent beast without being bitten. In the hierarchy of
modern performance Mustangs, few hold a candle to the mighty Shelby
Super Snake and we're looking forward to meeting the new owner!
