1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS LS6 For Sale - Factory LS6 454/450HP,
Beautifully Restored LMC is very proud to offer for sale this 1970
Chevrolet Chevelle SS LS6 This 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 454 LS6
is one of the most sought-after Chevrolet muscle cars, with its
world-beating LS6 big-block V-8 engine. Until 1970 the most
powerful engine associated with the Chevelle SS, aside from the
427-powered COPO specials, measured 396 CI of displacement, which
Chevrolet devotees were forced to wield against such over-the-top
powerplants as Ford's race-bred Cobra Jet and Chrysler's brutish
426 Hemi. Overmatched for years across its divisional spectrum
thanks to a self-imposed limit of 400 CI in all intermediate
models, General Motors management finally realized the decision was
hitting the company on the bottom line, and in 1970, GM relented,
dropping the restriction on displacement and unleashing a deluge of
big-block muscle led by the LS6-powered Chevelle. Chevrolet
engineers pulled no punches in assembling the LS6 engine package;
they began with a reinforced cast-iron block and added a forged
steel crank and connecting rods, forged aluminum 11.25:1 pistons,
high-flow closed-chamber rectangular-port heads, a high-duration
high-lift mechanical-lifter camshaft and topped it off with an 800
CFM Holley 4-barrel carburetor on an aluminum intake manifold and
fitting deep-groove pulleys to retain the drive belts under
high-speed operation. Rated at 450 HP at 5,600 RPM, the LS6 revved
freely and delivered increasing power right up to its 6,500 RPM
redline. Built at the Arlington, Texas, assembly plant, this Cortez
Silver LS6 Chevelle is a striking example of the breed that
features the highly sought-after 454/450hp, original distributor,
pulleys and radiator, correct 4150 Holley 4-barrel carburetor and
correct dual exhaust with resonators. The original LS6 automatic
transmission is joined to the original 12-bolt Positraction rear
end with 4.10:1 gears. In addition to its Strato bucket-seat
interior with center console, this superbly restored LS6 offers
power steering and front disc brakes, heavy-duty suspension with
front and rear sway bars, cowl induction, Soft Ray-tinted glass, a
sport steering wheel and an AM radio. It is documented with its
Shipping Invoice, listed in the LS6 Registry and complete with
Chris White's inspection as well as Jerry Macneish's Hi Performance
Inspection. Additional Details: 1970 CHEVROLET CHEVELLE SS LS6 -
