1956 Ford Thunderbird Roadster with Porthole Hardtop
DGC6432
VIN: P6FH346432
I recently acquired this 1956 Ford Thunderbird Roadster from a
local estate. The previous owner had meticulously maintained the
vehicle, and it appears to have been relatively low-mileage.
The Thunderbird is in excellent running and driving condition.
While it lacks power steering, its handling is responsive and
enjoyable. The silver porthole hardtop complements the dark gray
exterior, creating a visually striking appearance. The hardtop
enhances the car's elegance.
The interior features a black and white color scheme with black
carpets and a black dashboard. It retains the original Town &
Country AM radio. The speedometer indicates 3,244 miles, although I
estimate the actual mileage to be approximately 103,244 miles. The
hard top interior vinyl is very wrinkly, which you can see in the
photos maybe the only way to cure it would be to put a new interior
in.
The dashboard includes an amp and oil pressure gauge. Notably,
sound deadening material has been installed beneath the carpets,
extending into the rear compartment. The steering column is
adjustable, allowing for a comfortable reach.
Heated seats are accessible via two buttons on the dashboard,
however, the heated seats do not work..
The suspension system appears well-maintained. A split brake master
cylinder has been installed, which is a positive modification.
While the vehicle lacks power brakes and power steering, it is
equipped with front disc brakes. The carburetor is an unusual
high-rise Holley model with a stock air cleaner. A battery shut-off
feature is also present.
The Thunderbird is equipped with BFGoodrich Silverstone 6.70-15
wide white tires on black rims with a chrome Ford center cap. The
tires appear to be in excellent condition, with minimal signs of
wear. The underside of the vehicle is clean and painted black. I
have noticed new rubber axle stops. To fully assess the underside,
I recommend watching the video. Additionally, a new gas tank and a
recently installed dual exhaust system are visible. The underside
of the engine and transmission are both clean and visually
appealing.
The Continental kit was a standard feature on all 1956 Ford
Thunderbirds. This was due to the fact that golf clubs would not
fit in the trunk of the car, so the spare tire was removed and
placed on the rear of the vehicle, enhancing its classy appearance.
The original jack stand paper is glued to the underside of the
trunk lid. The chrome trim on the front and rear bumpers is in
excellent condition.
Overall, this 1956 Thunderbird appears to be above average in terms
of its condition. It has the potential to provide many miles of
enjoyable driving. I particularly appreciate the compact size of
these vehicles.
