Vehicle Description
In the vast history of the autoverse, few cars can match the levels
of love, allure, and dedication that a '57 Chevy commands. While
all three Tri-Fives are fan favorites to the Bowtie faithful, one
look at this gorgeous Onyx Black 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air Hard Top
and it's easy to see why this car is on so many collectors' bucket
lists. With the same owner for the past 32 years, this car was
given a full frame-off restoration by Special Cars Only beginning
in May 2006 and completed in January 2008. Set up as a custom
cruiser, this Hardtop sports 1956-style fender trim, dual
spotlights, side skirts, and those trick triple-outlet Lake
pipes.
Contrasting that sleek black exterior is a warm and inviting
tuck-and-roll dark red interior. A period-correct split front bench
seat leaves plenty of room to spread out, while the Brodie knob
mounted to the big steering wheel allows for easy one-handed turns,
making cruising that much more fun. The original three-pod gauge
cluster has gotten a Dakota digital upgrade, as has the
AM/FM/Aux/Cassette head unit that sits in its original position
without upsetting the classic ambiance that makes this car feel so
special. Power steering, power brakes, and air conditioning all
serve to help this '57 be the ultimate cruiser, perfect for any
street meet or Power Tour.
Under the hood, we find a clean engine bay featuring a crate 350
cubic-inch V-8 engine. That small block is fed by a single
four-barrel carburetor topped by a glistening chrome
Chevrolet-embossed air cleaner, while a series of the
fuel-injection Crossed Flags emblems are sprinkled throughout like
horse-powered Easter eggs. A set of Hedman long tube headers feeds
into a true dual exhaust before exiting through a set of Smithy's
glasspack-style mufflers, giving this retro ride an authentic sound
like no other.

This 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air Hardtop transfers power from that
throaty V8 to its rear wheels via a tried-and-true floor-mounted
T10 four-speed manual transmission. Riding on an A-arm front
suspension and rear leaf springs, this car also sports an oversized
Hellwig front sway bar for added handling prowess. Fifteen-inch
Cragar SS wheels shod in 215/75R-15 BFG Silvertown white-wall
rubber complete the hot rod look perfectly. If you, like so many of
us, have always dreamed of owning a classic Tri-Five, you will be
hard-pressed to find a better example than this fully restored '57.
