The third Mercedes-Benz to wear the “SL” badge, the W113 generation SL-Class was show to the public in the summer of 1963. The new 230 SL was engineered to get closer to the performance of the racing-derived 300 SL in comparison to the attractive but somewhat tepid-performing 190 SL, but still offer the comfort and safety buyers desired. A fuel-injected 2.3L Inline-6, later enlarged to 2.5L and, eventually, 2.8L, proved more than adequate for the task. Coupled with iconic styling and a unique, slightly concave “Pagoda” hardtop, the W113 SL quickly won the hearts of period celebrities.

As always, Mercedes engineers strove to improve the car. In December 1967, the 280 SL replaced the 250 SL. Its upgraded engine promised increased performance, while interior appointments were finer than ever. While most were equipped with a 4-speed automatic, a manual transmission was still offered for those who wished for a comfortable sports car versus a sporty cruiser. These cars have become increasingly desirable over the years, with values of high-quality examples growing dramatically. Between this and their endlessly enjoyable driving experience, W113 SL-Classes are superb vehicles for any discerning collector or enthusiast.

The incredible 1970 Mercedes-Benz 280 SL Roadster featured here is finished in gorgeous Dark Blue over a Cognac leather interior with a Black folding convertible top and a matching removable hardtop. This investment-grade Mercedes-Benz comes with essentially every available factory option including power steering, power four-wheel disc brakes, air conditioning, and a rare and highly desirable four-speed manual. This remarkable 280 SL Roadsters is among the nicest examples we have seen in years.

This exceptional Mercedes-Benz features a new factory-spec convertible top, new carpets, and a high-quality, bare-metal re-spray to ensure it is the perfect choice to drive and enjoy. Accompanying this incredible 280 SL are its owner’s manual, service booklet, Data Card, and tools. I personally believe the investment potential of this virtual time capsule will grow beyond your imagination. Offered to the most demanding collector, investor, or enthusiast who desire to own one of the very best!
