When Ford execs decided to resurrect its iconic Bronco SUV in
recent years with its new sixth generation, they decided to
recreate the image and likeness of the first-generation truck to
mark the occasion. Well, one look at this incredibly well-done 1966
Ford Bronco 4x4 Restomod and it's easy to see why that decision was
an easy one. Black on black on black, this model represents the
introductory year of the Bronco to the world, and despite its dark
appearance, it lights up Ford faithful everywhere it goes.
Inside, we find an interior that surpasses its original equipment
in just about every way possible. Plush and supportive bucket seats
are separated by a padded armrest storage console, while a
fold-down bench seat sits in back, complete with lap belts. A
three-spoke steering wheel sits in front of the driver, just ahead
of a trick hybrid analog/digital gauge cluster that provides all of
the essential vehicle information needed in a compact, efficient,
cool-blue hue. A touchscreen AM/FM/Bluetooth Sony head unit pumps
sound through speakers mounted throughout the cabin, ensuring no
one will miss out on tunes whether the removable top is on or
off.
Under the hood, we find a version of Ford's venerable 302
cubic-inch V-8 engine. Outfitted with a Holley Sniper 2 EFI system,
this 5.0 also sports shorty headers and a true dual exhaust capped
off with a set of sweet-sounding FlowMasters. Power is routed
through a four-speed AOD automatic transmission before being sent
out to a Ford nine-inch rear end and (when desired) a Dana 44 front
axle. Fifteen-inch wheels shod in tough 32-inch BFG All-Terrain
T/As hide a set of power disc brakes up front and power drums at
the rear.
