The Porsche 356 C, introduced in 1964, is considered the most
refined iteration of the 356 series, combining tested engineering
and enhanced performance. This model featured several significant
upgrades, including four-wheel disc brakes from ATE, a ZF steering
box with improved precision, and a 12-volt electrical system for
greater reliability. The 1600 cc engine was further enhanced,
producing 95 horsepower in the "SC" specification, making it one of
the most powerful versions of the venerable pushrod flat-four. The
C-Series also benefitted from Porsche's purchase of the Reutter
coachbuilding firm, which handled the construction of the Coupe and
Cabriolet bodies. These upgrades improved both safety and
performance while maintaining the lightweight, rear-engine,
rear-wheel-drive charm of the 356.
A copy of this 356 SC Coupe's Kardex warranty card reveals a
production date of 5 May 1964 with the car first sold through AMAG
to Ernst Schlpfer of St. Gallen, Switzerland. The Kardex confirms
this European delivery Coupe as factory fitted with the sporting
high compression 95 horsepower "SC" engine-the very same engine
this matching numbers example retains to this day. Furthermore, the
car was selected in Champagne Yellow with a Black leatherette
interior with Mouse Grey Corduroy seat inserts with two optional
extras that included "side spear" trim strips and a radio
antenna.
The car benefits from a complete restoration that was performed
under prior ownership. The bodywork was refinished in its
originally specified shade of Champagne Yellow, while the trim work
and wheels were refinished. Inside, the seats were reupholstered
with Black leatherette upholstery with fresh German square weave
carpeting. Since its acquisition by the current owner, this potent
factory disc brake equipped 356 remains a highly attractive,
matching numbers example today. Furthermore, the car benefits from
a thorough service prior to consignment that includes an engine oil
change and service of the brakes and fuel system, and is offered
with a Porsche-issued Certificate of Authenticity, tool roll, jack,
and a copy of its Kardex warranty card confirming original build
details.
