Porsche unveiled the 911 Turbo (Type 930) at the 1975 Frankfurt
Motor Show, introducing turbocharging to its road cars after
substantial success on the track. It quickly became the
range-topping 911 and a symbol of performance. Distinguished by
wide fender flares, a luxurious interior, and the now-iconic "whale
tail" spoiler, the Turbo's 3.0-liter flat six and reinforced
four-speed manual made it one of the world's fastest production
cars. In 1978, displacement grew to 3.3 liters and was the first
model year to feature an intercooler, improving power and
efficiency. U.S. emissions laws forced its withdrawal for the 1980
model year, but it returned in 1986, refined and more forgiving.
Car and Driver noted, "Antics that would have spun you out before
hardly faze it. The brakes are superb."
As Germany's fastest production car at launch, the 911 Turbo became
an icon of 1980s automotive culture. Its blistering performance and
aggressive styling ensure its place as one of Porsche's most
revered models. This matching-numbers 1987 911 Turbo Coupe built in
Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen in October 1986 is certainly no different!
Selected in the rare shade of non-metallic Dunkelblau (Dark Blue),
this 3.3-liter Turbo features an appealing and well-coordinated
interior with Marine Blue carpeting, Marine Blue leather upper
beltline, dashboard, and optional raised hub steering wheel. Beige
leather covers the optionally heated and electric-height-adjustable
sport seats, rear seats, and interior side panels. A sporting
limited slip differential rounds out the options list.
The clean CARFAX Vehicle History Report reveals the car was
originally sold via the world-famous Holbert's Porsche in
Warrington, Pennsylvania, which at the time was also home to
Porsche Motorsport North America. Under single ownership until
2015, the CARFAX reveals servicing exclusively at Holbert's until
2015 before being acquired by a new caretaker with approximately
18,000 miles. Since acquisition by the second owner, the car has
accumulated a scant 500 miles and is noted to remain in excellent
original and unmodified condition. Recent paint meter readings
reveal it wears its original coat of non-metallic Dark Blue paint.
The Turbo is furnished with its toolkit, owner's manual, and
Porsche issued PPS report.
