Sold new at Dick Barbour Porsche - Audi of La Mesa, California,
this Porsche's delivery service is noted in the original service
booklet as taking place on 17 September 1970. As the service
booklet shows, the original owner initially used this sporting
914/6 on trips between Southern California and Las Vegas. The car
is believed to have remained in California, with its current owner
purchasing it in 2022.
The current owner acquired the car post-restoration, with the
bodywork resplendent in Silver Metallic and a fresh Black interior.
The restoration wasn't just skin-deep; the engine and transmission
were expertly rebuilt by Holleran's Performance between September
2019 and January 2021, with a total investment of just over
$52,000. The matching numbers 2.0-liter flat-six was rebuilt to a
modified 911 S-spec with increased 85-mm LN Engineering "Nickies"
cylinders, boosting the engine's displacement to 2.2 liters. A new
knife-edged lighted crankshaft with the stock 66 mm stroke and
paired with Pauter custom connecting rods and custom forged
thermal-coated pistons. To feed the freshly overhauled engine, the
Weber carburetors were rebuilt along with the five-speed manual
transmission that has been upgraded with a limited-slip
differential. With the transmission very close to the Karmann body
number, it is believed that this is the car's original
transmission.
The Porsche 914/6 offers an attractive, mid-engine alternative to
the early 911, and this nicely restored example, with additional
power from its matching numbers air-cooled flat-six, presents an
especially compelling choice. The car is accompanied by invoices
documenting the mechanical work performed by Holleran's
Performance, a tool roll, and its original service booklet.
