This 1966 Chevrolet Corvair is a beautifully restored classic,
finished in a vibrant Regal Red exterior with a matching red
interior that captures the bold styling of the era. Under the rear
deck lid sits a 164 cubic inch flat-six engine, paired with a
smooth 2-speed Powerglide automatic transmission, offering a unique
and engaging driving experience. This Corvair has received a host
of updates, including new brakes, a fully redone interior, new
electrical wiring, rebuilt carburetors, and a fresh coat of paint
that gleams with period-correct shine. Despite its refreshed
mechanicals and cosmetics, it retains original charm with its
factory trim and original AM radio still in place. The vehicle has
been regularly serviced, making it not just a head-turner but also
a dependable cruiser ready for weekend drives or local car
shows.
The Chevrolet Corvair, produced from 1960 to 1969, was one of the
most daring and unconventional cars ever made by an American
manufacturer. Unlike anything else on the market at the time, it
featured a rear-mounted, air-cooled flat-six engine-an engineering
layout more commonly found in European sports cars. The second
generation, introduced in 1965 and continuing through 1969, brought
a complete redesign with improved suspension, sleeker styling, and
better handling. The 1966 model year stood at the midpoint of this
refined generation, benefiting from both mechanical improvements
and matured design. Despite early controversy surrounding its
safety-most notably highlighted in Ralph Nader's book Unsafe at Any
Speed-the Corvair has since gained a loyal following and is
recognized today as a significant and innovative piece of
automotive history.
