Vehicle Description
The Lincoln Continental model series had been a staple in the Ford
Motor Company's family of fine, luxury automobiles for many years.
It represented their best on offer in the ultra-luxury division
competing against the likes of the Cadillac and Chrysler on
showrooms nationwide. Each new generation easily identified in a
Mark designation, with the Continental Mark VII hitting the market
in 1984. This modern platform shared its chassis with the Ford
Fox-platform utilizing the same chassis as the Mustang,
Thunderbird, and Cougar, but came with more upscale features as
standard equipment. This included auto-leveling suspension,
on-board computers, digital instrumentation, and automatic
climate-control systems.
The Luxury Sport Coupe, or LSC, was also incorporated into the Mark
VII series as a new showroom attraction for buyers wanting a
sportier, 2-door option. By 1986, the Continental Mark VII simply
became known as the Lincoln Mark VII, and the LSC would undergo an
attractive update to separate it from other models, mainly to
better enhance its performance appeal. By 1988, it would utilize
the High-Output 5.0L V8 and 4-speed automatic transmission shared
with the Mustang GT to provide strong performance in combination
with luxurious ride and handling characteristics, particularly due
to a revised steering design. This led to a 120-mph speedometer in
1990, along with 16" BBS-style cast alloy wheels. The very special
Mark VII LSC was produced until 1992 and quickly became referred to
as "The Fox Body in a Tuxedo."
