The Nissan S30 was produced and sold in Japan under the name Nissan
Fairlady Z. As with many exports these same cars would be rebadged
so in America these are called the Datsun 280Z. These 2 seat sports
cars were produced from 1969 to 1978. They were conceived by the
President of the Nissan Motor Corporation USA and designed by the
head of Nissan's Sports Car Styling Studio. They are often referred
to as Japan's "halo car" as it broadened the acceptance of of the
Japanese car into other markets. This 1976 is a nice car and
painted in its original Red paint. It was inherited by the current
owner from his father who purchased it from the original owner in
1991. As was common for this time, exported vehicles had to comply
with US federal requirements so these cars were sent over with
impact absorbing bumpers. Those were a combination of smooth
surface chrome blended into rubber extensions where mated to the
car. Those are both in place and in good condition. The glass on
the car is in good shape throughout with no issues. The car wears
all of its standard 280Z badges which are nicely mounted in place.
It rides on a set of original 4 spoke wheels and the tires are in
good condition.
In an effort to keep the 280Z as sporty as before despite growing
strict US emissions requirements the motor size was increased to
2.8 Liters and a Bosch L-Jetronic fuel injection system was added.
The motor is original to the car and runs well. It is paired with a
4 speed manual transmission that moves through the gears smoothly.
The front ball joints have been replaced with all other mechanical
work being maintenance.
The interior features its original Black upholstery but the seats
have OEM covers which look great and factory. The high back bucket
seats sit to each side of the original console with manual console
shifter. The original Black dash does have a crack but has a nice
OEM cover so you can't see it. The dash itself has all of its
original gauges, controls, etc. In front of the driver sits the
original 3 spoke steering wheel with Datsun horn button. Being a
hatchback, behind those bucket seats is a large storage compartment
that is all carpeted in Black.
These are very unique cars that have a large following. Scoop it up
while it is still available!
