Ford introduced the Fairlane name in 1955 and continued to produce
them until 1970. Interestingly, the name was inspired by the
Dearborn, Michigan estate of Henry Ford. They were initially the
flagship model and later became the base model equivalent of the
Chevy Bel Air. This 1957 was the first year of the second
generation and is the 500 which was the top trim level. These cars
had a new style with a sleek look and low tailfins. It was a hit
among customers with Ford outselling Chevrolet for the first time
since 1935. The car has 61,375 miles on it which are thought to be
original. The car wears its stock Raven Black paint and the body is
straight. This was a time period where chrome was still highly
incorporated into cars and this one still has its original
stainless trim, large stock bumpers, Gold emblems, and unique Gold
side trim insert. In back the car has a continental kit with is a
really cool vintage feature you don't see on all of them. The way
it was innovated to work was the spare wheel with cover lifts up
and rolls to the side to give access to the trunk. They aren't in
place for the pictures but the car does come with a set of painted
rear fender skirts. The glass is all in good condition and it is a
hardtop so the side windows roll down to create a full opening
which tends to be the more popular look. The car rides on a set of
Dayton wire wheels with knock offs and new Cavalry thin white wall
tires. These are high quality wheels that themselves can sell for
$1,000 per wheel.
There were a few different engine options for these cars and this
one came with the optional 312 V8 Thunderbird motor under the
forward opening hood. It runs/drives well and has been kept looking
very stock with the Thunderbird Special V8 valve covers. Combined
with the engine is a Fordomatic transmission that shifts well. The
car does have power steering which operates properly and makes it a
nice car to cruise around in.
The interior features bench seats which are the original pattern.
It is the correct code AT Raven Vinyl with Gold Ripple-Wave fabric
inserts and is in good condition. The dash has a stock layout with
its stock gauges and controls. An underdash Old Air AC system has
been added to the car and is the more modern R134a system. The
trunk of these cars offer a ton of additional storage space for all
your car show gear and has a nice mat plus houses the original
spare with jack.
This nice classic is in good shape and is a solid stock car that
incorporates some nice upgrades like the AC plus has features like
the continental kit which is very unique. In addition to the fender
skirts the car also comes with an original owners manual.
Add it to your collection for $35,500.00!
