West Coast Classics are proud to present an exceptional example of
this 1937 Packard One Twenty 282 c.i 8 cylinder 2 Door sedan.The
1937 Packard One-Twenty (120) was historically the most important
Packard of the thirties, it saved the company at the time, though
emphasis on middle priced products in its post war years eventually
cost Packard. The 120 sold was a great success with its reliable
and smooth L head straight eight cylinder engine. Designated 8 for
1938 only. Available as a 2 door sports coupe with rumble seat, 2
door sedan, 4 door sedan or convertible coupe. Built in Detroit
from 1935 to 1937 and from 1939 through the 1941 model years. The
One-Twenty model designation was derived from the wheelbase, and it
was replaced by the Packard 200. The One-Twenty signified the first
time that Packard had entered into the highly competitive
mid-priced eight-cylinder car market. The introduction of the
One-Twenty (and later the Six/One-Ten models) was a way to enable
Packard to remain in business during the final years after the
Great Depression, expanding on an earlier approach with the Packard
Light Eight and offering exceptional value for its price it saved
the company in the very tough mid 1930's years. Without it the
company would have expired by 1936! These models were known for
their elegant styling, luxurious interiors, and the Packard's
reputation for quality and smooth performance. The 1937 Packard
One-Twenty was powered by a 282 cubic-inch straight-eight engine,
producing 120 horsepower. The One-Twenty featured Packard's
"Safe-T-Flex" suspension, designed for a smooth ride and handling
and features included a deluxe heater, porcelain manifolds, and a
3-speed transmission. 1937 Packard One-Twenties are highly sought
after by collectors For 1936 Packard increased the displacement on
the L-head eight, increasing its output to 120 bhp, making the car
capable of reaching a top speed of 85 mph (137 km/h). A built in
radio was available at a cost of $59.50 ($1,353 in 2024 dollars).
For 1938, the One-Twenty name was dropped and its model folded into
the Packard Eight model range. It was certainly the best Packard and
one of the very best all around touring cars of the 1930's.
