Vehicle Description
This 1964 Buick Riviera is a beautiful, luxurious hardtop that is
absolutely loaded with options! Initially making their debut during
the 1963 model year, the Buick Riviera signified Buick's entrance
into upper medium price class for personal luxury automobiles, a
genre completely dominated by the Thunderbird up until this point.
Built on their own unique 117 inch wheelbase chassis and utilizing
a 2-door hardtop body, the Riviera stylistically was unlike any car
coming out of Buick in the day or even out of General Motors at the
time. The radically distinct design was quite popular with total
production sitting at 40,000 units in 1963. The 1964 edition of the
Riviera was largely unchanged from the debut models, likely
contributing to a slight drop in production from '63 to '64. From
nearly every angle the Riviera looked both fast and luxurious. On
the front fenders, the leading edge was highlighted by a miniature
vertical grille on each side, reminiscent of the grilles found on a
1936 Cadillac. Between the mini grilles, was an egg crate-style
grille with a pair of headlights on each side. Down the sides, the
body lines were elegantly modern with special trim, including
Riviera script emblems, bright rocker panel and wheel well
moldings, and a faux air intake in front of the rear wheel
openings. In the rear, the personal luxury and modern design motifs
were continued with very modern-looking body lines, a Riviera
script emblem, and unique taillight assemblies. The interiors
exuded luxury as well. Front bucket seats were separated by a
center console and shifter that made the cars look and feel sporty
yet upscale. The dash was covered in brightwork that was both
extravagant and futuristic. The Riviera was also absolutely loaded
with options as standard equipment including the center console and
shifter, power steering, power brakes, automatic transmissions, and
more. The biggest improvement in the 1964 Riviera was actually
found under the hood with the powerful 340 horsepower 425 cubic
inch Wildcat V8 being standard equipment, cementing the '64 Riviera
as being a luxury sports car of sorts. This particular '64 Buick
Riviera comes to us from a collector who owned and cared for the
car for nearly 35 years. Powering this '64 Riviera is a numbers
matching 425 cubic inch V8 engine fed by a single 4 barrel
