This 1971 Corvette Stingray coupe is a numbers matching vehicle (minus paint code) with minor modifications. I am the fourth owner (as told by the previous owner) and have garaged the vehicle since 2012. Originally pained Classic White, the previous owner performed a frame on restoration in 2000, painting it Steel Cities Grey and retaining the original black vinyl interior. Upon completion of the restoration, side pipes were added.
The original 350 cubic inch, 270 hp engine has been slightly modified with a mild cam, performance heads, headers and exhaust, and an MSD digital ignition controller (I am in possession of the original heads). Current hp is unknown but estimated to be around 300 hp. The original 4-speed Muncie transmission is a 2.52:1 (wide range) ratio M-20. The original posi traction rear end has a 3.36:1 gear ratio.
Additional features of this vehicle include: Original Order/Build Sheet; factory air conditioning (converted to R134a); tilt-telescopic steering column; alarm system; power steering; four-wheel power disc brakes; shoulder belts; removable rear window; new BF Goodrich Radial T/A tires (P245/60/15) with less than 200 miles on them.
This vehicle is in very good condition and, for all intents and purposes, appears original. Because of this, it has won first and second place in numerous local car shows, including a first-place finish at a show sponsored by the Antique Automobile Club of America. Everything on this car works as intended. With that said, it is not without some flaws: there are four small paint chips – the roof edge behind the driver’s side t-top, on the top back edge of the driver’s door (which is hidden when the door is closed), on the edge of the fuel tank opening, and the passenger door well; the engine has a minor oil leak (not sure where this is coming from); the windshield wiper cowl raises and lowers (winks) sometimes when the engine is started; the back window has a few minor scratches from being removed and stored; faded and some missing paint on the rally wheel center caps; a few scratches and minor dents in the rally wheel trim rings.
This car is an absolute blast to drive and I will miss it. But as my interests begin to turn elsewhere, I have begun to lose interest in it, which is not fair to the vehicle. It is therefore time for a new owner to appreciate and cherish this classic.
