Vehicle Description
This 1940 Ford Deluxe Convertible Coupe is a beautifully restored,
V8 Ford with great options and Art Deco flair! Debuting in dealer
showrooms in October of 1939, it was clear that the 1940 Ford
models were the style leader for its price class. Carrying forward
the teardrop design elements from the previous year, the Eugene
Gregorie designed '40 Fords were (and continue to be) absolutely
gorgeous and many believe that Edsel Ford himself even played a
major role in sculpting the Art Deco inspired design. The iconic
design of the 1940 Ford was an outstanding refresh from the
previous year and this was clear from nearly every angle. Up front,
the new-look grille was a major highlight but perhaps the biggest
improvement was made to headlights that were trimmed in chrome and
tastefully incorporated into the front fenders, and now featured
sealed beam headlights which was a first for Ford. The side profile
of the 1940 Ford was equally beautiful with curvy front and rear
fenders along with nice clean body lines and neat trim. In the
rear, the chrome taillights and bumpers were absolutely gorgeous
and on the coupe models, the sloping body lines capped off an
outstanding looking, streamlined design. For the interior, the 1940
Fords were highly trimmed especially for a car in its class and the
biggest update was Ford's shift away from a floor mounted shifter
to the more modern column-mounted "Finger Tip Gearshift" that also
made the interiors more roomy. The other major update for Ford in
1940 was the addition of the modern Convertible Coupe body style
complete with a vacuum-powered convertible top that was touted as
raising and lowering "automatically" via a vacuum-controlled
switch. In total, Ford produced 23,704 Convertible Coupe models
which comprised a less than 4% of Ford's total production in 1940
which makes this particular car quite a rare one and even more rare
since it does not appear to have been modified as many '40 Fords
have been over the past 85 years. Under the hood on this '40 Ford
Convertible is a 221 cubic inch Ford Flathead V8 engine fed by a
single 2 barrel carburetor that together were said to have produced
85 horsepower when new. The 221 Flathead V8 is backed by a 3 speed
manual transmission that is shifted using the column-mounted "3 on
the tree" shifter known as a "Finger Tip Gearshift." Exhaust exits
this 1940 Ford DeLuxe via a single exhaust port that generates a
terrific throaty sound out of the rear tailpipe. This 1940
V8-powered Ford Convertible comes absolutely loaded with options!
Riding on a set of wide whitewall tires mounted on painted steel
wheels and accented with Ford Deluxe emblazoned chrome hubcaps and
chrome beauty rings, this '40 Ford has an outstanding look whether
you're showing it at the local car show or you're cruising down the
road. Further elevating the gorgeous look of this Ford Convertible
is a matching set of rear-mounted fender skirts with the rear
wheels tucked behind. The front and rear chrome bumpers are also
outfitted with optional chrome bumper guards that also give this
pre-war Ford an upgraded upscale look. Dual chrome outside mirrors
are another wonderful addition to this classic Ford since they
greatly assist when trying to squeeze in and out of a tight parking
spot at the local drive-in or car show. The white cloth power
convertible top is raised and lowered with ease with flick of a
switch and is powered by a novel vacuum-powered system. The chrome
and brightwork around the exterior of this classy Ford Convertible
looks great as well! The all steel body of this 1940 Ford Deluxe
has been refinished in a beautiful Mandarin Maroon paint that
completes the exterior appearance of this Art Deco inspired
convertible. The interior of this 1940 Ford DeLuxe Convertible
Coupe is absolutely gorgeous! The front and rear bench seats have
been reupholstered in Caramel upholstery that provides a wonderful
contrast to the exterior look of the car. The color-matched
upholstered door panels, rubber floor mat, beige carpeting, painted
dash, and two-tone steering wheel all look great and remain in
their stock configuration. The interior is also highly optioned
with a rear view mirror, color-matched upholstered sun visors, and
heater that is tucked neatly under the dash. Additionally, this
1940 Ford DeLuxe Convertible comes equipped with full
instrumentation including a 100 MPH speedometer, oil pressure
gauge, battery gauge, temperature gauge, and fuel gauge. The dash
is finished off with a locking glovebox, clock, cigar lighter, and
even an AM radio. Whether you're buying your very first classic car
or you're adding to your existing FoMoCo collection, this 1940 Ford
DeLuxe Convertible Coupe would make an excellent choice. Give
