Vehicle Description
Slammed and slick, this 1949 Mercury Leadsled Convertible cruises
with the kind of presence that would've made James Dean double back
for a second look. Built in true kustom kulture fashion, it wears
deep red over its body that sits tight over the frame with that
classic dropped stance. A crisp white vinyl top locks in the
two-tone look, straight out of the era when drive-ins and
whitewalls ruled the streets. Fifteen-inch wheels wrapped in
215/70R15 whitewall tires give it a proper stance, and the
Continental kit hanging off the back finishes it off with the right
touch of style. Pure custom metal done right.
The white vinyl interior with red piping exudes classic custom car
style with its split-bench seat designed for cruising in comfort.
Column-shifted for that authentic '50s feel, the cabin balances
vintage Mercury aesthetics with modern touches like power windows
for easy open-air driving. The dash retains its 1949 layout while
the AM/FM cassette player provides the soundtrack for your
boulevard adventures, completing the period-correct yet upgraded
feel that makes this Mercury's cabin so inviting.
The muscle comes from a Chevrolet 350 V8 that gives this Mercury
plenty of go to match its show. Topped with an Edelbrock carburetor
and dressed with flame billet valve covers, the engine bay shows
off without being overdone. The 700R4 4-speed automatic
transmission puts the power down smoothly while giving great
highway capability for long-distance cruises. The custom suspension
setup includes A-arms up front and leaf springs in back, with the
whole package lowered to achieve that perfect ground-hugging
profile. Power disc brakes up front offer modern stopping power,
while dual exhausts with Cherry Bomb mufflers give this Mercury
that unmistakable rumble.
