Few cars in the history of the autoverse are capable of turning
heads quite as violently as a car like this fantastic 1970 Pontiac
Firebird Trans Am. Decked out in a gorgeous Polar White and
full-length blue center stripe, this numbers-matching top-tier
Firebird is one of just 3,108 models made for this year with a Ram
Air III V-8 (more on that in a moment). With its bulging shaker
hood, vintage Rally wheels, and unmistakable decklid spoiler, this
Trans Am is a stunning example of what a first-year Gen 2 looks
like.
Inside, we find a stock and correct-looking black vinyl interior.
Matching bucket seats separated by a center console allow an
expansive view of the seven-pod gauge cluster spanning most of the
dashboard. The Firebird's signature 'tic-toc-tach' sitting front
and center of the three-spoke steering wheel gives you a rough idea
of just how fast this boulevard bruiser really is.
Under the hood sits a numbers-matching 400 cubic-inch Ram Air III
V-8, which, when new, pumped out an impressive 345 horsepower and
430 pound-feet of torque. This motor is topped with a Quadrajet
four-barrel carburetor that feeds into an Edelbrock intake
manifold. An H-pipe dual-exhaust setup capped off with a set of
sweet-sounding MagnaFlow mufflers that give this Trans Am the
old-school rumble that brings a smile to the faces of anyone within
earshot. Those ponies are routed through a TH400 three-speed
automatic transmission, of which only 1,339 cars were made with
this powertrain combination.

This 1970 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am rides on a beefed-up suspension
thanks to front and rear sway bars. The front 235/65R-15 Cooper
Radial G/T tires are aided by a power booster, while a 12-bolt rear
sends power out to a matching set at the rear. Front discs and rear
drums are also power-assisted, allowing this Trans Am to be
comfortable even on long road trips. Even more comforting is the
included build sheet and Pontiac Historic Services (PHS) report,
giving this Firebird all the provenance any collector could ask
for. If that collector is you, don't wait another second. Call
