Vehicle Description
1995 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe
"The average dream lasts 6.6 minutes. This isn't your average
dream. Chances are it began before you even had a license. That
deep rooted yearning for one to call your own. And while most of
your nocturnal fantasies have come and gone over the years, this
one seems to reappear every time you turn out the bedroom light,
with its doors open and engine running. Well, you're not alone.
Because for more than 40 years, people have been losing sleep over
Corvettes. And the 1995 'Vette is no exception." From the 1995
Corvette print ad.
For consignment a 1995 Corvette with a title verified 36,401 actual
miles. A2 owner car, red on red, garage kept its entire life and is
one of the thousands that have attended Corvettes at Carlisle,
about an hour west of Classic Auto Mall. If you're looking to get
into the classic or sports car world, C4 Corvettes present an
underrated opportunity to do so at reasonable prices.
Exterior
Our example is Torch Red, the most iconic of Corvette colors
perhaps and the C4.2, as it is known in Vette circles, employs
rounded bumper covers with flush marker lights in front and tail
lights with slightly squared corners in back. A nod to the roots of
the early 50's with the front quarter vents just behind the front
wheel well and monochromatic coverage is maintained by the side
sport mirrors, the mid panel body molding, and the colored keyed
roof which seems to float over like a baseball cap, suspended by
black trim of the steeply sloped windscreen. Headlight doors flank
a subtle double hump on the hood while 17-inch "salad shooter"
wheels hold ZR rated tires with a late 2023 date code, so you can
scratch that costly maintenance item off your list! The only
imperfections we find on this red beauty are some delamination of
clearcoat on the wheels and a spot of curb rash. Beyond that, the
paint is very nice.
Interior
Bright red leather covers the sporty buckets with high backs, extra
bolster padding, and headrests which are integrated right into the
seats, and they are both excellent. Racing between the buckets
toward the dash is the center console, which houses a glovebox,
seat controls, and the automatic shifter, all in black to break up
the red sea. The center stack is canted towards the driver and
provides an AM/FM/Cassette radio black lit in orange, and the A/C
panel and this black band of plastic curves to the main instrument
cluster where a center digital screen is flanked by an ascending
tachometer on one side and descending analog gauges on the other.
Bright red plush carpet below is in great shape and kept so by high
sided plastic footwell covers, also in red. The cargo area is also
covered in varying shades of carpet and even the speaker covers are
red!
Drivetrain
Pull the hood forward and reveal a clean 5.7 liter LT1 V8, rated at
300 horsepower, fuel injected and mated to a 4L60E 4-speed
automatic transmission sending power to the 2.59 geared rear axle
with limited slip. Power disc brakes are on duty at all four
wheels. These earlier Vettes lack the big plastic engine covers so
the motor is visible and accessible.
Undercarriage
Like the engine bay, metals underneath are subject to the passage
of time which changes the color slightly through oxidation, but
we're not seeing any surface rust, let alone any of the invasive
type. There's no extra grease or errant oil either and this is
clearly a low mileage and pampered car by the looks of things. The
dual exhaust travels back to original equipment mufflers, stamped
by GM and black in color and leading directly to the square black
tips split wide out back. Suspension is a complex race inspired
system of forged aluminum control arms, knuckles, control links
along with transverse monoleaf springs and a tubular U-joint
aluminum driveshaft.
Drive-Ability
Unlike muscle cars from the '60's with bench seats, you don't sit
on the Corvette, you melt into it and the well bolstered seats hug
you like a red leather blanket. The LT1 starts up without issue and
emits a muscular but civilized growl from the exhaust, and the
engine provides plenty of power in the form of acceleration, the
newer tires grip in corners, and visibility is excellent. For
functionality, we find all operations work as they should. While
Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at
the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions
will be working at the time of your purchase.
Car show season is upon us, (those of us with real winters emerge
from our hibernation as we write this). No matter where you live,
there's likely a list of cruise ins, Main Street cruises, and of
course, Cars and Coffee. And let's not forget about the hundreds of
Corvette clubs around the country! But if you don't want to mingle
with others, you'll still get great joy from this well preserved C4
in classic red on red with low miles and new tires!
