Not only is this a survivor car in original condition, it is also a TRUE Street Level Performance Engineering (SLP) SS/Z28 modified car - this is not a backyard SS clone. Out of 2,257 SS conversions created by SLP in 1996, only 264 convertibles were modified. Furthermore, out of the 264 convertibles that were made available, only 16 were sold with this color and 6 speed transmission.
This is the first model year for the return of the SS since 1972. SLP Engineering identifies this as car number 1980. SLP Engineering in Troy Michigan made several modifications to improve performance over the standard Z28 after it left the assembly line.
The first year SLP modified Camaro was identified as a Z28 SS Camaro model. This particular SS alteration package added around $5,800 to the original sticker price and included a functioning air induction fiberglass hood, a ducktail rear spoiler, P245/50-ZR16 BF Goodrich tires ZR-1 style alloy wheels. In addition, performance exhaust, torsen torque differential, 6-speed Hurst shifter, performace lubricants package, special Z28 SS carpeted floor mats, SS graphics and special SS car cover were also included. The odometer shows just under 132,000 miles. Absolutely no performance modifications have been made on this factory original 5.7 L V8, producing 305 horsepower. Motor Trend in September 1996 reported the Camaro SS was capable if 0-60 in 5.3 seconds and 1/4 mile run at 13.8 seconds @ 101.4 MPH. A long list of factory options are present including 6-way power drivers seat, power windows, locks, mirrors and the original Delco-Bose audio system with CD comes with the car. Currently an after market AM/FM/CD system is installed. The factory Polo Green Metallic finish and Neutral leather seats and Neutral fabric interior still looks to be in great condition for a 29 year old car (see pictures). There is some work that needs to be done as with any car this old - it is not perfect. The engine runs strong and transmission shifts fine. Given the rarity of the car, it will continue to go up in value. I have kept the car in my garage and only take it out in good weather. I will be retiring soon and we are downsizing so I need to let it go.
I have several documents that were provided by the dealership when the car was sold to the original owner which has been kept in a binder.
