The Woodie or (Woody) station wagon took inspiration from fine
wooden furniture to invoke that same feeling of class when it comes
to automobiles. Completing the passenger compartment of cars in
wood was a popular practice back in the day and was a modern
interpretation of horse drawn carriages. These cars were typically
created by large third party coachbuilders and occasionally by
local carpenters. They were sold in limited production numbers and
eventually strength, cost, and durability led to the wood
constructed cars to be abandoned. That being said they are still
extremely popular in the classic car world and are very much alive.
The National Woodie Club is still very active and host events all
across the country. This '33 is the two door version and was
constructed by Hercules Motor Car Company out of Tampa, Florida.
This was a popular Woodie builder and were still in business until
recent years. If you look them up online you will see some articles
discussion the very talented builders there. This car has a
combination of a custom steel body, custom wood paneling and
fiberglass fenders. It is painted in White which pairs nicely with
the wood paneling which we think is Hard Maple based on our
research. It has a nice Blue canvas top in place that is in good
condition. The glass on it is all good throughout and in typical
Woodie style it has lift up windows instead of roll up windows. The
chrome grill looks good and is framed by the larger style circle
headlights. The car rides on American Racing Torq Thrust wheels and
it has a taller tire in rear for a slight rake.
The hood can open from either side and reveals the 350ci V8 motor.
It has been fitted with billet valve covers, a billet air cleaner,
an Edelbrock intake, and Weber carburetor. The car starts up and
runs great. It has an automatic transmission that moves through the
gears smoothly with no issues. Other nice features include the Ford
9 inch rear, custom chassis, adjustable coil overs, tubular a arms,
4 link rear suspension, power steering, and power front disc
brakes.
The interior was entirely redone in Blue upholstery that looks
great. It has dual high back bucket seats up front and a full bench
in rear. It has belts in place for all with the fronts being full
retractable 3 point belts. The custom dash is all nicely
upholstered as well and topped off with Boyds Classic Instrument
gauges, adjustable vents, Vintage Air AC/Heat controls, and an
Alpine AM/FM/CD player. A nice tilt column sits in front of the
driver and fitted with a Banjo leather wrapped steering wheel. One
of the prettiest parts of the car is actually hidden up above where
you will note a beautiful exposed wood slat ceiling. In back the
car has tons of storage space with a fully opening 2 piece rear
gate.
This very cool Wagon has a classic style you can only get with a
Woodie so get it while it is still available!
It could be yours for $75,000.00!
