Vehicle Description
Motorcar Studio is pleased to offer this 1973 Porsche 914 2.0 "S" -
this is one of the nicest and best-sorted 914s we've seen, finished
in Signal Orange over brown interior. COA confirms original color
and numbers-matching engine. Porsche introduced the 2.0 liter
four-cylinder to replace the 914/6 in 1973, which US dealers
marketed as a 914S to distinguish it from the base 1.7. This
designation was short lived as it ruffled some feathers in
Stuttgart, but basically the 914S is a 2.0 with both the appearance
group and the performance group options included.
This 914 has known history to new; four owners, complete records,
recent major overhaul including a full engine and transmission
rebuild in 2023 fewer than 1,000 miles ago. The original,
numbers-matching engine was upgraded with oversize Euro-spec
pistons and cylinders which bumped up the displacement to 2095 cc
(the largest you can go while retaining the stock D-Jet fuel
injection system). The dogleg five-speed manual transmission was
rebuilt with all new synchros. Five-lug conversion with 911 SC
front suspension (it's running real five-lug rotors, not just
re-drilled four-lug rotors). An auxiliary oil cooler tucked inside
the right rear wheel well assures this 914 runs cool even on the
hottest days. All fuel injection wiring was replaced. Receipts for
the engine and transmission rebuild alone exceed $16,000.
The interior has been fully restored in correct materials,
including seats, carpets, door panels, steering wheel and dash. All
gauges were rebuilt by Palo Alto Speedometer. Rebuilt pedal
cluster. 917-style wood shift knob. Restored Blaupunkt radio. The
result is an interior that looks, feels and smells factory fresh,
and with full functionality. Paint and body present nicely -
excellent Targa top, glass, lenses, bumpers and trim. Gorgeous 15x6
Fuchs-style wheels by Braid are wearing Pirelli P6000 tires. Very
tidy front and rear trunks, undercarriage and engine bay.
Included with the sale are the original window sticker and purchase
invoice, 1973 sales brochure highlighting the 914S, a Porsche
Certificate of Authenticity that specifies this car as a 914S, full
ownership history, comprehensive service records, owner's books
(including stamped service book), spare, jack, and two sets of
keys. This 914 feels particularly dialed in and well sorted - which
is not something we can say for every restored car we encounter. It
starts easily (both hot and cold) and runs and drives beautifully -
it's light, balanced, responsive and rewarding to push to its
limits.
