For Sale: 1947 Chrysler Town & Country in Fitchburg, WI

Vehicle Description

1947 Chrysler Town & Country Woodie 4-door sedan

One gorgeously restored 1947 Chrysler Town & Country Woodie.  Easily the crown jewel in any collection.

The 1947 Chrysler Town & Country four door sedan with the beautiful wood luggage rack on the roof is one of the most visually high impacting car that you can have in your collection.  These cars were literally custom bodied cars with the most beautiful woods of the day used to create rolling art.  The luggage rack adds that “safari” touch and the trunk has been designed to be extra-large. The dashboard has the appearance of fine jewelry.  The fabulous Tartan plaid and leather look give it a sporty look.  It is said that many women that don’t typically have interest in their spouse’s car collection car do find the Chrysler Town & Country Woodies remind them of fine furniture and for that reason are very impressed.

As you can see from the photos this car has been highly restored.  Mechanically it runs great. Actual mileage unknown.

However if you think the outside of this car with all its wood is gorgeous, just check out the fabulous interior!  The dashboard is what really nails the term “crown jewel” as the dashboard absolutely looks like fine jewelry and the horn ring is done in exquisite taste.

Keep in mind that when you think of custom bodied cars out of Europe this is truly a custom bodied car but “Made in America”…with a body that has often been likened to fine furniture.

Interesting note that on the trunk is a big chrome center brake light.  Keep in mind that this is a car that came out shortly after WWII, the center brake was a truly advanced idea and don’t you just love those gigantic hinges on the trunk lid and on the door opening.  Wherever you look on this car, there is an architectural art element that just gives it the jewelry effect.

For those that are wondering how these Woodies were put together, they were literally fabricated by highly skilled woodworking craftsmen who built the cars just as though they were building fine furniture except on a much larger scale. Only the finest woods were used and interestingly enough the wood for these cars all came from Arkansas.  Even the interior of the roof of the car shows beautiful structural wood supports that in themselves become somewhat of an artwork feature.  This car is also equipped with a very unique pushbutton radio that not only controls the station selections but also the tone of the radio!

Six cylinder engine.  The transmission was very unusual and was called “fluid drive” and it did have a clutch but once you shifted into first gear you could shift into 2nd and 3rd without using the clutch.  After that when you came up to a stop light you no longer needed to use the clutch…the car now acted like a fully automatic transmission.

Check out the spotlights and sun visor and even side view mirrors!  Don’t forget that the crowning glory of the Town & Country is the wonderful way that they blended in a luggage rack on the roof to make more art work. The Town & Country came in many colors but we think many will agree that the wood panels contrast beautifully with the maroon paint.

This is a most stunning car whether you are taking it out for a drive or out for the Saturday night local show or wanting an invitation to the Pebble Beach concours.  This car will satisfy the most discriminating collector.

Do your research and you will really appreciate the great value as it could easily take five times the asking price of this restored car just to restore a rough one.  This one is a true jewel and gets plenty of respect at any car show.

Also, the 1947 Chrysler Town & Country 4-door sedan is a great vehicle to cruise down the road on long distance tours and has plenty of interior room.  The truth of the matter is that this car automotive art at the highest level both inside and out.  Please note texts will not be answered because we do not text and prefer phone calls from truly serious parties at 779-770-6651.
