Vehicle Description
This 1968 Ford Mustang is a beautifully preserved classic that
retains its original charm and character while offering a true
connection to the past. Built at the Metuchen, New Jersey plant,
this Mustang is a Factory J-Code car, meaning it left the assembly
line with a 302 cubic-inch 4-barrel V8 engine, a desirable and
strong powerplant that delivered impressive performance in its day.
With its C-4 Select Shift automatic transmission and 3.00
conventional rear axle, this Mustang was built to be both a
comfortable cruiser and a spirited performer on the open road.
Finished in its factory-correct T-Code Candyapple Red (Ford
#2008-A), this Mustang was repainted once in its original color,
maintaining the striking look that made these cars so iconic. The
body is believed to retain its original sheet metal, a testament to
its solid condition. While the car does have minor flaws and chips
(see photos), it remains a well-preserved, unrestored example that
stands out in any crowd. The Deluxe Marti Report confirms its
authenticity, and the original build/broadcast sheet was even found
under the seat, providing a rare and valuable piece of
documentation.
The interior is equally well-preserved, featuring factory-correct
2A Black Vinyl Standard Bucket Seats, which provide a comfortable
and classic driving experience. The dashboard and controls remain
in excellent shape, with all gauges in working order, ensuring that
the driver stays informed while on the road. This Mustang is
equipped with an AM radio along with an under-dash FM tuner,
preserving the period-correct appearance while offering an expanded
listening experience.
Driving this Mustang is a pleasure thanks to its power steering,
which allows for easy maneuverability, whether cruising through
town or enjoying a long highway drive. To enhance both aesthetics
and road feel, this Mustang has been fitted with brand new Magnum
500 wheels, wrapped in brand new BF Goodrich raised white letter
radial tires, providing a classic muscle car stance and improved
performance.
One of the most remarkable aspects of this car's history is that it
was sold new just a few miles from our dealership at Town & Country
Ford, 435 E Broadway, Salem, NJ 08079. This local connection adds
to its story, making it a particularly special find for enthusiasts
in the region.
With its original drivetrain, solid body, and well-documented
history, this 1968 Ford Mustang is a fantastic representation of an
American classic. It is an excellent choice for collectors and
enthusiasts alike, whether you want to enjoy it as a weekend
cruiser, take it to local car shows, or preserve it as a piece of
Mustang history. Don't miss out on this well-documented, locally
sold, and beautifully maintained Mustang that continues to turn
heads more than five decades after it first hit the road!
