For Sale: 1950 Ford Deluxe in Morgantown, Pennsylvania

Vehicle Description

1950 Ford Deluxe Country Squire Station Wagon

For the 1950 model year, Ford renamed its model lines; initially, the station wagon was a Custom Deluxe with the all new "Country Squire" name introduced in early 1950. Several revisions were made for 1950 to improve functionality and capability. The second and third-row seats were redesigned, allowing their removal without tools. In another change, the Country Squire also received heavier duty rear suspension, wider tires, and a larger fuel tank over Ford sedans. Howstuffworks.com

For consignment, a 1950 Ford Deluxe Country Squire station wagon showing 30,000 miles on the title which are not actual. Maple and Mahogany adorn this classic 1950 which also has some parts from a '51. Major body work has been started but needs to be completed and the wagon cargo space is now used for a slew of parts that go with the car.

Exterior
What color do you think goes best with wood on a woody? Well, the options are limitless as the metal panels on the car including the entire front clip, roof, and tail light panels, along with the rocker panels and rear wheel surround, will all need to be finished and painted. Some of the Hawthorne Green is peeking through, but most are a mixed bag of patina, surface rust, and welded seams. You could certainly throw some clear on it and call it a day, but there's more potential here and the top has been chopped and the doors shaved already! Meanwhile, the wood is in decent shape with contrasting tones of honey colored maple and black grained mahogany, all serving as clean inspiration to get this wagon done! 17-inch Bullitt wheels are on board carrying staggered size tires and the slammed wagon also has a raked stance. Metalwork will need help too, so put rechroming on your work docket. As we say in the south, it's rougher than a stucco bathtub.

Interior
Essentially a shell inside, it's filled to the brim with parts and all surfaces have a light coat of surface rust. Low backed gray cloth bucket seats are up front, but likely just as place holders until you decide what the interior should look like as they are tired. A 70's steering wheel sits on an earlier column leading to a barren dashboard awaiting your creative input, and wears a single dial, a volt gauge, likely there to read the myriad of wire strewn throughout. In back, we note the air suspension controller.

Drivetrain
Under the hood, a comparatively clean Mustang 5.0 liter V8, fuel injected and linked to an AOD 4-speed automatic transmission keeping it in the family by sending power to the Ford 8.8" in back. A big aluminum radiator is on board along with coated headers. Disc brakes are on all four corners.

Undercarriage
Also clean underneath other than dust, dirt, and spider webs. The chromed differential cover adds some bling to the affair and dual exhaust travels through Turbo style mufflers before dumping abruptly under the car through downturned ends. Suspension includes airbags up front and a 4 link with air bags in the rear.

Drive-Ability
This is a no frills ride at the moment, but the 5.0 liter delivers on startup and bellows from the dual exhaust below. A quick lap around the loop proves the engine works, the brakes work, and the suspension keeps everything on the down low. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.

This cool ride with the 1951 grille is begging to be finished. In the end, you'll have an absolutely unique wagon with some stunning wood and whatever else you want to add to it! It's a parts bin on wheels and it's going to make a fantastic project for someone willing to launch into this draggin' wagon!
