For Sale: 1974 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am in Kalispell, Montana

Vehicle Description

1974 Trans Am Super Duty 455.  This car was the fastest car made by Detroit from 1974 until the 1989 Corvette posted better 1/4 mile times.  Only about 1,000 SD455s were made.  With the addition of a functional air scoop, Hooker headers and Ram Air IV camshaft, the RWHP is significantly above the stock 290 SAE HP advertised horsepower.  Much like the 426 Hemi, the Super Duty was a detuned race engine to make it street legal.   The car has matching numbers, is Pontiac Historical Society certified, with original window sticker copy from PHS.  Engine is registered on SD455 online website.  I purchased it online from Streetside Classics in Phoenix in 2019.  I have driven it only during the summer months.  The interior color is rare, as it has a black dashboard and console while seats and carpet are red.  All gauges work except for the clock.  It has original radio and 8-track player, but they are disconnected and I have not attempted to have them diagnosed. Heater works great (it is not an A/C model).

Streetside Classics told me that it was rottiserie restored by the prior owner.  I have a binder from them that is not shown in the photos for copyright purposes.  I also have about 74 online photos from the inspector that I paid to take photos before purchasing the vehicle..  It is maintained in a heated garage and routinely started.  There are no oil, tranny or other fluid leaks.  The carb is a Rochester Quadrajet, with numbers indicating it was specific to SD455s with automatic transmissions.  In addition to matching numbers on the block, VIN plate and TH400 tranny, the heads, block and intake manifold all have numbers that confirm that the engine is a legitimate SD455.  You can contact me directly for additional photos.  You may also be able to view the original listing on the Streetside Classics website.  They have archived and left them on the website in the past.

Appearance and performance wise, the car is in excellent condition.  If you know the history of the SD455 project, you have no need for a bunch of salesy historic information.  Anyone else should contact me or read one of the many online articles about the car built in 1973-74 that was the fastest American street-legal car offered until 1989 Corvettes finally achieved faster speeds.
