This car is part of an estate. My father purchased the car from someone in California in 2001. It has been stored in a garage in Pennsylvania since that time. My father passed away in 2020 and the vehicle has not been registered with the state of PA since 2015. The title reflects mileage = 4 with the current mileage at 277 and has been confirmed as a rebuilt engine 1300cc stock unit. A restoration expert did review the car and offered the following information and therefore I have reduced the price accordingly.
1. Engine will require regasketing due to oil leaks. It will also require maintenance such as carb rebuild, basic tune up, fuel pump, etc. The engine turns freely by hand.
2. Transaxle shows signs of leaking and would require removal and resealing
3. Car has been converted to a 12V system using an aftermarket alternator.
4. Requires rebuild of complete brake system. The master cyc is frozen and one or more wheels are frozen due to the car sitting. (very common on VW drum brakes)
5. Front suspension and steering needs to be rebuilt. The rubber boots on the ball joints and tie rod ends are all torn or missing. The steering box is leaking lube from the lower seal.
6. Fuel tank is clean inside
7. The body, floor pans, and heat channels are original and show no rust or major repairs.
8. The bottom of the car shows light surface rust as nothing has been restored or refinished. The right hand pan shows some light damage below the battery area done by bottoming out on something at some point in the car's life.
9. The engine compartment, trunk area, and under the dash area have not been restored and reflect the original black finish.
10. Tires and rims are in very good condition showing no cracks or dry rot.
11. Spare tire will need to be replaced
12. Battery is dead and will need to be replaced.
13. Interior is in very good condition with nice carpets and headliner. The headliner is a non original color (black)
