Few cars in the history of the autoverse are as head-turning as
this 1979 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am. Fully repainted in its
original Nocturne Blue exterior, this model year represents a
complete refresh of the top-tier second-generation Firebird. A new,
more streamlined front end that allows for better airflow thanks to
a repositioned pair of grilles and an updated rear spoiler still
manage to take a backseat to the giant 'Screaming Chicken' decal on
the expansive hood of this WS7-equipped, pulse-pounding
Pontiac.
Inside, we find a wholly replaced black vinyl interior featuring a
set of sporty bucket seats separated by a combination storage
console/armrest. A Grant GT steering wheel sits in front of a
shimmering metal dashboard highlighted by a big tach and
complimenting speedometer, while ancillary gauges are situated
about. An AM/FM/cassette player adds entertainment beyond the big
motor under the hood, while functional air conditioning keeps
temperatures cool when it's too hot out to pop the T-tops off.
Under that massive scooped hood, we find a 6.6-liter V8 that we
believe is original based on the partial VIN we found on the stamp
pad (pictured). It has been upgraded with a FiTech electronic fuel
injection system to help the already underrated big block make more
than the 220 hp and 320 lb-ft of torque it was originally
advertised as having from the factory. That power is then routed
through a Turbo Hydramatic 350 three-speed automatic transmission
before being sent out to the ten-bolt rear end.

This 1979 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am rides on a set of sixteen-inch
wheels taken from a Gen-3 Trans Am shod in 215/60R-16 Starfire
tires. A set of front and rear sway bars adds a bit of rigidity to
complement the power front disc and rear drum brakes. Along with
plenty of nostalgia, this T/A comes with plenty of provenance,
including its factory build sheet, original window sticker, and
owner's manual. If you have been wanting a second-generation
Firebird that is guaranteed to garner the lion's share of attention
anywhere it goes, look no further because this is the car you've
been searching for. Don't wait, call today!
