Vehicle Description
The 320is was introduced to North America as a variant of the E21
BMW 3 Series for the 1980 model year. It was essentially a 320i
equipped with a sport package that included a front air dam, Recaro
seats, a bespoke leather steering wheel, an upgraded suspension, a
limited-slip differential, and front and rear roll bars. It
featured the same 1.8L inline four engine as the 320i, producing
101hp, paired with a 5-speed manual transmission that sent drive to
the rear wheels. Production of the BMW 320is ended in 1983.
The 1982 BMW 320is offered here has been owned by the same family
since it was purchased new. Finished in classic black exterior
paint over a charcoal leather interior, this car remains highly
original, with just over 81,000 miles on the odometer. It features
the original "Sport" options as listed above. The car presents very
sharp overall, showing some minor wear and tear consistent with
normal use. Our test drive revealed a spirited classic sports car
that helped coin the phrase, "The Ultimate Driving Machine,"
connecting car and driver.
With approximately only 2,500 320is units built from August 1980
through December 1982, these cars are rare and have a promising
future in the collector car market. This is a great opportunity to
acquire a classic example of 1980s European sports car design and
ingenuity.
