For Sale: 1954 Buick Super Riviera in Salmon Arm, British Columbia

Vehicle Description

This vehicle is a very well maintained, quality restored example of this rare and desirable Buick model. A Buick Super Riviera 2 dr. hardtop, with a 322 CID Nailhead V8 engine, built in the Arlington TX plant. The engine runs very well and the vehicle is in Excellent #2 condition.

The present owner purchased it in Ontario Canada in 2013, and it was believed to have been imported from the Southern US by the previous owners. It was in driver condition at the time of purchase in 2013, with original interior and all original sheet metal - a few small holes in the LR quarter, rocker in front of LR wheel, trunk floor. The vehicle has since received a frame-on, front-clip-off restoration that was completed in the spring of 2022. None of the original sheet metal had to be replaced.

It has been repainted in its original Arctic White, with the addition of Rainier Blue on the main body - a color correct to the year. The body was taken to metal, etching primer, etc., base with 2 coats of clear. The quality of overall prep work is excellent and the paint has excellent coverage and shine. All panels are smooth and free of dents and properly aligned with reasonable and uniform panel gaps. Rubber door and trunk seals are in excellent condition and neatly attached.

Original front fenders in excellent restored condition, with undersides in very good condition. Original rear fenders, with lower quarters repaired on the left side, and in excellent restored condition. Original hood in excellent restored condition with underside finished in black with sound insulation. Factory hood hinges are nicely restored and the hood latch works well. Original roof in excellent condition, smooth and free of damage. Original doors in excellent restored condition, with excellent inner door corners. Door handles have been re-chromed. Door hinges operate well and panel fit is excellent. Door jambs in excellent condition. Running boards are in very good condition and have been restored nicely. Pinch welds are in very good condition and fenders are neatly attached at front. The trunk is in excellent condition, with underside very well finished. Trunk hinges and latch work well. The internal area of the trunk was finished in black splatter paint with new floor mat installed and in very good condition, glued down. The spare tire and correct jack are stored neatly, and new finishing boards were installed in the front and sides of the trunk. All chrome was refinished to a high quality of standard. Both the front and back chrome bumpers are in excellent condition, with bumperettes on front and rear. Vent ports and emblems are in excellent condition. Headlight surrounds are in excellent condition. All lenses in excellent condition except two original tail lights showing some patina. New "purple dot" tail lights to replace are included with sale. The tinted windshield, side and rear glass are in excellent new condition, showing no scratches from use, and the manual windows slide easily without binding. Window whiskers are in excellent condition.

The interior trim is upgraded to Roadmaster spec and design. It has been restored and is in excellent condition, including fit and finish of light blue headliner, sun visors, mirror, and interior light. Original dash shows very well with no damage to dash surface, chrome and central trim panel in very good condition. The gauge faces are clear and include a sweep speedo that was rebuilt and zero'd, four accessory gauges, and an operating clock. All switches and knobs were restored and are properly functioning, including fan, defroster, wipers, and horn. The VIN plate is in its original location on the left door jamb with clear numbers. The factory tube-type AM radio was rebuilt and installed in its original location and is in very good operational condition, including the addition of an auxiliary jack and FM band. The steering column and controls are in very good condition with original steering wheel and column shifter. The split bench front seat and bench rear seat were rebuilt and recovered in period correct two-tone blue vinyl. All seats in excellent condition and front seat hinges operate well. Carpets and matching mats were replaced with new blue and are in excellent condition. Manual door locks and windows operate well. Glove compartment in very good condition with functioning light. All weather stripping in excellent condition.

The original dealer installed NOVI Air Conditioning unit is fully intact and in place, but is not operational. Owner lives in a climate where air conditioning is not needed, and opted not to restore it. 

The underbody is in excellent condition and is finished in black undercoat, with original floors, and with frame also in very good condition. The driveline was completely rebuilt in 2020, including new complete wiring harness, original 322 CID Nailhead V8 engine, 2 barrel carb, 2-speed dynaflow automatic transmission, Buick torque-tube differential, power steering and all steering components, original knuckle type shock absorbers, all body mounts, brake lines and brakes, fuel lines and gas tank, exhaust. 

Factory style 15" steel road wheels in excellent condition, finished in red with chrome Buick center covers (correct to period but non-stock). Tires are era-correct Coker American Classic wide white radial tires, showing no cracking. DOT age 2021.

VIN on the body plate is 5A8013363. This vehicle has not been modified from its original specs other than wheel covers changed and paint color addition of Rainier Blue.
