In 1934, Alfa Romeo unveiled the 6C 2300 at the Salone dell’Auto di Milano, designed to replace the 6C 1750 and 6C 1900. While the 8C 2300 remained a race-exclusive model, the 6C 2300 debuted at the 1934 Giro Automobilistico d’Italia. Its defining moment came at the 24 Ore di Pescara, where three Gran Turismo models bodied by Carrozzeria Touring secured the top three positions. Following this victory, Alfa Romeo began selling the model under the name “Pescara.”
The 6C 2300 was offered in Turismo and Gran Turismo versions. The Gran Turismo variant featured improved performance and a shorter wheelbase (2,920 mm), but its chassis was otherwise identical to the Turismo model, with no significant technical innovations. Production was limited to 1934, with Gran Turismo chassis numbers ranging from 700101 to 700635.
The 6C 2300 made its mark in the Mille Miglia, participating in four editions:
1935: Franco Cortese secured 8th place overall.
1936: Three of four entries finished 9th, 11th, and 13th overall, with Ercole Boratto, Mussolini’s driver, taking 13th. These cars also swept the podium in the “Classe oltre 2,000 cc senza compressore” category.
1937: Ten 6C 2300s competed, with Boratto achieving 4th overall.
1938: Twelve entries participated, with Cortese finishing 9th overall.
This particular 6C 2300 GT Pescara Berlinetta Touring, chassis 700563, is one of only two known to exist. It is fully documented by ASI, FIVA, Registro Alfa Romeo, and Registro Storico Mille Miglia. The car has a well-known history, having been registered by J. Deboer and participating in the retrospective Mille Miglia in 2022 and the Trofeo Nuvolari in 2023.
The car is entirely original, with matching numbers, and has had only three owners since 1945: one in Switzerland, followed by Mr. Caprara in Mantova (who performed a conservative restoration at Bonfanti Garage), and the current owner. It comes with an extensive file of documentation and is located in Italy.
