When it comes to the best muscle cars of the 1980s, few cars can
compare to a car like this 1987 Buick Regal Turbo-T. Designed to be
a high-performance variant of the Buick Regal, the Turbo-T, this
unique option was made solely for the 1987 model year. So, with
just 31,119 (believed) original miles on its odometer, this Turbo-T
is not only one of the fastest cars of an entire decade but also
one of the rarest, with just 1,547 units ever made.
Inside this well-preserved Buick G-Body, we find a medium dark grey
cloth interior that, while far from lavish, provides a surprising
amount of comfort thanks to its plush bucket seats and soft-padded
door panels. A center console provides storage, dual cupholders, as
well as an armrest, while the three-spoke steering wheel's 'T'
center cap and column-mounted tachometer let you know that this car
is ready to run whenever the urge arises. A large touchscreen
infotainment head unit brings a bit of modern charm and convenience
thanks in part to its digital backup camera feature.
Under the hood sits an incredibly powerful 3.8-liter WE4
turbocharged V-6 engine. Although everyone remembers the Grand
National as Buick's supercar killer, the Turbo-T was even quicker,
thanks in part to its lighter aluminum block and heads setup. From
the factory, the Turbo-T's engine was severely underrated at 245
horsepower and 355 pound-feet of torque. That power was then
funneled through a TH200-4R four-speed automatic transmission
before heading out to the ten-bolt rear end, which was equipped
with 3.42:1 gears to provide plenty of punch off the line without
sacrificing too much highway civility.
