Description:
This 1989 BMW M3 was fitted with a 3.2-liter S50 inline-six and a
six-speed manual transmission sourced from a European-market BMW
E36 M3 as part of a build that was completed circa 2008. It has
been repainted in yellow and further modified with a limited-slip
differential, and many more described below. The car rides on
black-finished 17? Forgestar wheels with interior and exterior
modifications described below.
Interior:
The interior has been outfitted with a body-colored roll bar behind
a pair of black leather Recaro bucket seats fitted with Takata
harnesses and Schroth harness pads. A Clarion head unit is
connected to MB Quart amplifiers and speakers in a custom enclosure
that takes the place of the rear seats. Sound-deadening insulation
has been installed, and further amenities include A/C, M-branded
floor mats, and power windows, mirrors, and locks. The three-spoke
M-Tech II wheel is wrapped in leather and joined by an M-branded
shift knob and an Alcantara shifter boot. Carbon fiber surrounds a
replacement instrument cluster that consists of a tachometer with a
7k-rpm redline as well as a 160-mph speedometer and gauges for fuel
level, instant fuel economy, and coolant temperature.
Exterior:
The two-door body left the factory finished in Salmon Silver, and
it was twice repainted in yellow. Exterior details include a
black-finished grille, a Euro-style front bumper cover, a power
sunroof, and HID headlights and turn signals with smoked lenses as
well as an adjustable rear wing, color-keyed mirror caps, and
tinted glass.
Drivetrain:
The 3.2-liter S50 inline-six was sourced from a Euro-market E36 M3
and installed circa 2008. It features a painted valve cover, a
Fluidyne aluminum radiator, ceramic-coated headers, and a custom
exhaust system. Power is delivered to the rear wheels through an
E36 M3-sourced six-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip
differential with 3.73:1 gearing and a finned cover. A UUC flywheel
and clutch assembly were installed along with the transmission.
Staggered-width 17? Forgestar wheels are finished in black and are
mounted with Hankook Ventus V12 EVO tires. Stopping power is
provided by red-finished Brembo calipers with braided stainless
steel hoses mounted over cross-drilled rotors. Suspension
modifications include a Racing Dynamics front strut tower brace,
H&R lowering springs, Bilstein dampers, Ireland Engineering
sway bars, and Treehouse Racing "Eyeball Arm" control arm
bushings.
